Latin & Ancient Greek classes by Classical Philologue

Let's start by declensions and so on. We'll discover the verbal tenses and how is a phrase done. You don't know the slight aspects unless have studied how Ancient Greek's verbs work, or the Ancient Indian.
So, if we can translate texts (at first easier ones, the the original), we could reach anywhere in the vast world around the Roman Empire. Latin is the basis for the Romance languages. And Greek is more usual between us than you could imagine (Medicine, over all).

You could structure your mind as the ancient did! They are the "little box" where you can put in whatever you want. It also provides a manner to live and to work in order to know the essential tasks and the rest.

About Me

They consider me a serious and responsible teacher. I arrive punctually to the classes, and I have no problem in extending a little more time to finish what we have started.
The teaching method of Latin and Greek that I follow is the traditional one (based on grammar and start-up in exercises). I can teach you at your own pace.
But I am also aware of the new methods and active teaching techniques of Latin and Greek. Lingua Latina per se Illustrata and Athenze, for example.
We could also prepare intensive reinforcement or revision classes before an exam, we focus on the format of the questions and the content of your exam.

Reviews (1)

Good teacher ! good experience !
As a Spanish teacher, I like to guide classes to action, day by day. It is always preferable to know the recurring vocabulary and the most common forms. We will focus on the oral interaction. It will be necessary to have a grammatical review session, which is not a problem: my experience as a teacher of the subject "Spanish Language" in Spain has given me the ways to teach them at all levels (from 9 years to adults). Classes would be given entirely in Spanish, it is always necessary to input the most of the language that is being studied.

Kiki
Modern / Ancient Greek Language and Culture Courses
Hello everyone! My name is Kiki, I am a linguist and a (Modern/Ancient) Greek language teacher, currently working on my PhD thesis on the intercultural expression of emotions. I am also a translator and a trained tour guide, constantly engaging in the interplay of language and culture! I live and work in Thessaloniki, Greece, and I 've been practicing teaching for over 15 years now, working within a whole variety of different environments and with people coming from a range of cultural backgrounds. One of the reasons I love teaching/translating is the ongoing process of exchanging knowledge of intercultural linguistic patterns that shape our everyday reality. I am constantly encouraging students of all ages to look out for more than grammatical rules and vocabulary, and to dig into the intriguing aspects of everyday communication. I thus adopt a communicative/conversational method, supplementing instructory books with verbal training and providing material from different cultural sources. So whether you want to learn Greek from scratch, or you want to improve specific skills (grammar/syntax/vocabulary etc.), or prepare for the Greek certification exam, or even if you are just curious about Modern and Ancient Greek culture, I invite you to start your learning journey with me!

Latin lessons for all levels (beginners, intermediates, advanced, higher education students)-ADULTS
Associate professor, Doctor of Letters (Paris IV Sorbonne), teaches Latin at all levels. This course is aimed at anyone wishing to learn or relearn the Latin language, progressively access literature, history, philosophy, ancient sciences, and approach Latin culture. It is also intended for any pupil or student wishing for support in this subject. Learning the Latin language presupposes a few solid bases of French grammar that we review of course if necessary, before installing Latin grammatical knowledge. Learning Latin develops the rigor and sense of translation.

Learn (modern) Greek for everyday use, university, tourism with FUN and passion / (ancient) Greek for school and university
I am a native speaker of Greek. I graduated from a Greek high school and, later, the University of Athens where I attended courses in pedagogics, psychology, and linguistics. During our lessons, I'll help you develop your skills (oral/written, and not only). I'll also try to help you improve your pronunciation and spelling. I assign homework and after I receive it, correct it thoroughly additionally providing a lot of remarks/examples if they are necessary. I worked at a language center between 2009-2016 where I was a director of studies and taught mainly English as a foreign/second language. Since 2005, when I first started teaching Greek, I have taught children and adults on a variety of language proficiency levels, mainly individually. I constantly seek progress, meaning that I study further through reading books/articles concerning didactics/methodology and learning difficulties (chiefly dyslexia), observing other teachers as well as attending seminars (online or face-to-face). During my lessons I use : - Skype/Whatsapp/Messenger to connect with you, - Google Docs to keep notes, which you can check at any time and they are yours to keep, - sketch board me to make mind maps to show connections between ideas, etc. - books, PPP, word docs, diagrams, pics, etc. - pronunciation/spelling/grammar games, - authentic materials were taken from websites. I adore my profession and desire each and every one of my students be satisfied with the lesson. That's why I make sure the atmosphere is stress-free and nice. I also want my lessons to be as effective and close to real-life needs as possible. Therefore, I make sure they are well-prepared, although they can be altered at any point, should such an opportunity arise. I like explaining things in a variety of ways as well as make use of dictionaries, diagrams, etc. When it comes to students who want to obtain certificates, I am very demanding. What can I teach? - I would love to help you improve/develop all language skills (speaking/writing-listening/reading + grammar/vocabulary/pronunciation), - I would love to help you prepare for state certificates such as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. - I would love to help you with homework and assignments (literature, history) from school and university (but please contact me about that IN ADVANCE). Regarding Ancient Greek, I can help you with commentaries/translations/grammar/syntax: - Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, - Homer, Aeschylus, Euripides, Sophocles, Sappho, - Herodotus, Thucydides, Xenophon.

Living Latin through Comprehensible Input (Contemporary and Medieval Latin)
You will learn Latin the way it was meant to be learned - through conversation! Medieval scholars and contemporary language researchers alike advocate the use of dialogues and comprehensible input for language acquisition, and it most certainly works! As opposed to the "memorise grammar rules and then babble them in front of the class" approach that was demonstrated by the infamous "Romanēs eunt domus" scene from Monty Python's "The Life of Brian", you will learn to feel the grammar, so that you will be able to use the different cases of Latin without even thinking about it, just like a native speaker! For this class we will be using the following books, depending on the learner's level: Hans Øreberg's "Lingua Latīna per sē Illustrāta" "Corderiī Colloquia" Erasmus Rask's "Colloquia Familiaria" John C. Traupman Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency I will be the collocutor and I will answer the learner's questions and explain certain oddities solely in Latin (I will use a second language only when the situation calls for it) We will also engage in free-form conversations, discussions of the dialogues, of our life experiences etc so that the learner can apply what they learn to real-life situations and expand their vocabulary

My name is Popi and and I live in Glyfada, Greece. I am a native Greek language tutor and I've been teaching modern and ancient Greek since 2004. I hold a Master's Degree in E-Learning. I am also a PhD student in Education. My education philosophy is that the student comes first. I try to give motivation to each student to fulfill all their goals and to achieve their education purpose. I emphasize on speaking and listening skills and on interactive and innovative digital resourses that I design by my own. I am an enthusiastic teacher, who empowers people to learn what they need!

Carlotta
Latin tutoring for secondary students (Dutch / Latin / German / English)
Salvē, my name is Carlotta and I have 5 years of experience in tutoring. These now take place in Leuven, where I live in a room, as well as in Maldegem, where I come from. Since April 2022, I have been taking courses in Latin language acquisition at the Schola Latīna, an Italian private school that uses the comprehensible input (CI) method. This means that all classes are taught exclusively in the target language, allowing me to not only translate Latin, but also speak and write Latin. Since no Flemish school expects active language skills, I will of course not do this during the lessons ;) In practice the same problems always return: difficulties with translation, difficulties with memorization of sequences and vocabulary, lack of motivation or fun. When such a fantastic profession is experienced as difficult, it is only logical that motivation also drops. Whatever the problem, Latin itself is a perfectly feasible subject. I also tutored mathematics and noticed that students only have fun when they are no longer struggling, which is what we are working towards :) My goal is to be less needed as quickly as possible by learning and practicing strategies. When you contact us, please state the year the student is in. I provide extra customized material! Cūrā ut valeās, Carlotta

It's all Greek to me: Learning Ancient Greek in a modern way
Having the longest documented history of any Indo-European language, the Greek language holds a very important place in the history of the Western World. As a native speaker of Greek and holding a BA in History and Archaeology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as an MA and a PhD in Classical Archaeology from the same University, I am ready to help you learn Greek effectively and pleasantly. Either being a beginner or an advanced student, you can get acquainted with the Greek Language and Culture or penetrate its mysteries through intensive or specialized courses. Having a ---more than 20 years--- experience in Teaching Greek for children and adults, I would be glad to share my passion for the Greek language, Ancient and Modern alike, through courses built upon each student's level, motivation and learning needs. This course is addressed to those who: ---Wish to gain a basic knowledge in Ancient Greek. ---Wish to prepare especially for their exams in Ancient Greek (university entrance exams for senior high school students or university students of all levels). ---Wish to learn Ancient Greek in depth and gradually gain access to literature, culture, and ancient history.

The follow-up can also offer a course aimed at developing general culture (whether literary or artistic). I can also help you with basic mathematics, English, Latin, writing a CV or a cover letter, writing a job, advanced use of Word, Powerpoint, Scribus or Gimp software. Cogito ergo sum. La bellezza della lingua e letteratura latina
Nel latino risiedono le radici non solo delle lingue romanze, ma anche della cultura europea. Imparare questa lingua e la sua letteratura può essere una sfida estremamente arricchente ed entusiasmante. Le mie lezioni mirano ad offrire gli strumenti per tradurre e apprezzare al meglio i testi latini, sottolineando come parole e strutture latine sono tutt'ora vive nelle lingue moderne.
