Maybe you are discovering the violin for the first time, or perhaps you would like to reconnect with the instrument after playing it in childhood. Whatever your starting point, you are warmly welcome to begin or continue your musical journey with me.

As a conservatory-trained musician with teaching experience at beginner and intermediate level, I guide students through the fundamentals of violin playing in a clear, patient, and supportive way. Together we work on posture, bow technique, intonation, rhythm, sound production, musicality, and developing confidence with the instrument.

For me, learning the violin is not only about technique, but also about expression and finding your own voice through music. Every student has a different personality, sensitivity, and way of learning, so I adapt each lesson to your individual needs, goals, and pace. I believe music should feel alive, inspiring, and enjoyable.

My teaching style is positive, flexible, and encouraging. I want students to feel comfortable exploring, making mistakes, and gradually building a genuine connection with the violin and with music itself.

About Me

My name is Jannes Desmet. I’m a singer, musician and language teacher based in Brussels. I graduated with highest honors in Translation from the University of Antwerp, specializing in Russian and Dutch. After my language studies, I continued my artistic education at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven, where I studied violin. Alongside this, piano has been a constant part of my life since childhood, and today I also specialize in classical singing as a countertenor at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels.

Music and language have always gone hand in hand for me. As a performer, I am particularly passionate about classical and baroque music, and I regularly participate in concerts and artistic projects both in Belgium and abroad. My musical background includes violin, piano, choir conducting, and vocal performance, which allows me to approach teaching from a broad and creative perspective.

Teaching is something I genuinely enjoy because I love helping people grow and discover their potential. Over the years, I have worked as a language teacher for private schools and have also given private lessons in violin, piano, and singing. I value curiosity, motivation, and the exchange of knowledge, and I believe learning should always be adapted to the individual person.

For me, a good learning environment is based on trust, openness, and mutual respect. Every student is different, so I aim to create lessons that are flexible, supportive, and tailored to each person’s goals and personality. Whether in music or languages, my goal is to help students feel confident, inspired, and comfortable expressing themselves.

Finding your voice can be a powerful and liberating experience, and my goal is to guide students through that process in a supportive, open, and encouraging atmosphere.

As a classically trained countertenor and conservatory student, I teach the fundamentals of healthy vocal technique while helping students develop confidence, musicality, and freedom in their voice. We work on breathing, posture, resonance, vocal placement, articulation, and expression, always adapted to your individual voice and level of experience.

Whether you are a complete beginner or already have some singing experience, lessons are tailored to your personal goals and interests. I believe every voice is unique, and that singing lessons should not only help you improve technically, but also help you discover new aspects of yourself through music and self-expression.

My teaching style is positive, patient, and flexible. I want students to feel comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, and gradually opening up their voice without fear or pressure. Above all, singing should remain something joyful, inspiring, and deeply human.

This class is aimed for children between the ages of 8-13 who would like to begin developing their vocal technique and find their own unique voice early whilst working in a group scenario. My Group Singing workshop is a mixture of improvisation and technique. Add to that the fun singing with other like-children and you’re looking at a contender for the highlight of your week!

This class is designed to build confidence and promote individual personal and social development and is taught in a fun yet disciplined way. With a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 6 students per class each student will have the opportunity to perform a solo song and also a group song each week with individual feed back and technique advice each week.
