Hi, I’m Elvis Homan professional drummmer, band leader, composer and teacher who currently resides in Rotterdam where I graduated in University of Arts, Codarts 2017. I Teach drums suitable for anykind of level and minimal age of student not less then 10 years. You can learn any style of music: Rock, Pop, Metal, Jazz, Drum'n'bass, Blues, Latin Rhythms, you name it ! I’m also a member of two jazz projects named Quartzite4tet and Marco Apicella Trio. With those bands we ended up as finalists of Erasmus Jazz Prijs 2016 and winner of the Leiden Jazz Award 2017. You could find very fun and interesting excercies for improving your coordination while learing intriguing drum beats!But also...you are a fan of progressive music but you're having troubles playing that weird odd-meter...I'll show you how simple and easy can be to play that 5/8! Do you have a solid rhythmic fundation and you want to get in touch with Jazz or Latin music? Learning a language, especially if you are not a mother-tongue, is very hard. Generally I believe that to learn how to express yourself through your instrument is a life-long learning process. I can show you the first steps you need to take for applying your technical skills and coordination in these styles. We can listening to recordings and to check how the drummer accompanies his band mates, how he expresses his solo ideas. We can transcribe comping ideas, solo ideas, and of course I'll show the approach I use to learn and to digest this information to make it mine. I have been a professional drummer for 15 years. I have recorded several albums with different bands. I also have been touring and playing festivals with loads of bands all over the world. My goal has always been to show that the drummer should not always just be in back. The drummer should be as fun to watch and hear play as the rest of the band. I teach drums to beginners to more advanced students. The classes are made to make the learning process fun but also consistent and most important I teach you what you like the most and help you achieve it. I help students to deeply understand how drumming works and which methods and techniques can support their learning process.

Becoming a confident musician is a skill that requires discipline, dedication and hard work. However I strongly believe that whether you wish to progress your skills on an instrument to a professional level, simply get the most out of playing In a band with friends or jamming along to your favourite playlists, the art of learning an instrument is an incredibly rewarding skill. In our lessons we will focus on building a solid foundation across the basics of playing the Drum Kit. We will discover the rich and diverse history of the instrument and move through the jazz, funk, rock and pop era's of music. While I am happy to tailor all of these lessons to the student's needs, I do believe having a basic knowledge of where the instrument and it's vocabulary came from is essential and will have a positive impact on the students playing. Listening is important! We will work through a number of landmark recordings that carve the path of the Drum Kit's evolution and continue the listening process all the way to your favourite songs and how the drums affect that music and the rest of the band! I am also happy to work through ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall and/or Rockschool exam grades. Music is all about communication, and being able to fluently communicate ideas on any instrument requires time and practice. However, like with your very first English lessons in school, over time you can develop the skill of communication to a point where you can exchange many different ideas and create interesting conversations (this time between musical instruments rather than your friends in the pub!). Although I understand music is a not a career for everyone, I strongly believe that learning how to play any instrument properly with discipline and good practice will enhance your life is more ways than anyone who doesn't play music will understand.

Experienced teacher and chalk in hand, offers coaching (online or at home) taking into account the learner's level and adopting the most appropriate method for adequate monitoring. Online, the sessions will be recorded and the video will be available to the listener (for their revisions). Students in exam classes will find, through various supports, the resources to upgrade and tackle the tests with more confidence, and the certainty of a positive result. The difficulties linked to analysis (grammatical and logical), the methodology of exam tests (dissertation, summary, commentary), the understanding of texts, genres and literary trends will no longer be a secret or a pitfall to success. For those preparing for a competitive exam, more in-depth training to achieve the required performance will be offered. Beginner or advanced Latinists will be able to master the subtleties of Latin morphology, syntax and conjugation. They will be able to read and understand texts, acquire vocabulary, know the history of Roman civilization. For non-Latinists wishing to acquire knowledge of Latin, this course will provide a good introduction to this classical language. They will read, understand simple to complex structures, access texts independently to increase their general knowledge or the needs of their activity. For English-speaking or Arabic-speaking adults who need to study the French language, this course will allow them to communicate in French to be independent in daily exchanges.

Latin, although technically a 'dead language' is still very usual to know nowadays. If you like learning new languages and the history behind them, this class is for you. Be prepared to learn lots of vocab, a bit of grammar and enjoy learning. If you are already taking Latin for GCSE and are struggling or just want some extra support this is also for you. I am a current A Level Latin student, who also takes Classics and Maths, student- predicted A* for Latin and Classics and I achieved a grade 9 (A*) for my Latin GCSE. I am capable of teaching both the Cambridge Latin Course and the John Taylor, 'Latin to GCSE' textbook so I can help tutor to your preference if you have one. I enjoy tutoring and already have some experience, so please attend if you are eager to learn something new and unconventional.

I believe that tutoring should be a dialogue between the pupil and tutor, tailored to the former's needs in order to help them achieve their maximum potential. ABOUT HOW TO TAKE CLASSES My methodology is based on the student's interests, adapting to their preferred genres and supporting the student according to their goals, from those who want to be able to play an instrument as a hobby to those who want to train as a professional musician. My priority is to create an environment where you feel comfortable, set small challenges to make learning exciting and see your progress through these achievements. We will use a comprehensive approach where we will combine theory with practice from the beginning, so that you are able to understand in depth what you are playing. The classes behave based on the interests and level of the student. The idea is to have fun and set objectives and goals to work on to simultaneously advance in technique and musicality when playing the drums. At the same time, there is constant work on posture, breathing and relaxation to improve the interpretation of the instrument and avoid long-term injuries. Usually the class is divided into two sections, the first with technical work to achieve greater ease and comfort when performing, exercises are given to improve musical rhythmic reading applied to the drums, coordination, speed, rudiments, drum exercises and different hits where we will experiment with timbres. The second part is practical; We will perform a repertoire of interest, we will practice rhythms, grooves, applying breaks and fills of different styles. All this aimed at working on musicality and intuition that allows developing a rhythmic "ear", improvising and even composing and arranging one's own songs. My teaching is based on my experience as a percussionist, dance accompanist, teacher, composer, producer and as a designer of percussion instruments. My life is percussion: I play it, I teach it, I design percussion and I develop techniques for it.
