In this class, which will become adjusted to your current English proficiency, we will learn and practice such things as greetings, grammar rules, and have conversational practice involving various topics, including: colors, shapes, culture, school or work, landmarks, travel, everyday situations, friendship, the environment, and more. I will use TPR (expressive body language), props (actual objects), tools (such as flashcards or screenshots), and a very friendly, patient demeanor as we enjoy our lessons practicing English together. :)

My name is Claudia and I have been teaching children for 20 years now and pride myself on being friendly, warm, patient, and structured. I taught elementary education (first grade and kindergarten) for 15 years in Upstate New York, and have been teaching ESL (English to speakers of other languages) online to students ages 4 to 13 for the past four years. Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

My methodology: Learning to structure one's thoughts to express oneself better
My approach is based on a simple observation: success is not achieved through lack of effort, but often through a lack of method and confidence. My role is to transform subjects sometimes perceived as abstract (Philosophy, French) or intimidating (English) into concrete tools for success.

The typical course of a session:
1. Quick diagnosis: We start by identifying the areas of uncertainty from the previous lesson or the difficulties with a specific exercise.
2. Taking action: No boring lectures! We work on concrete exercises, essay plans or oral practice (in English) to "learn by doing".
3. The "Montreal Method": Having worked for two and a half years in Quebec, I use a North American pedagogy that is very focused on encouragement, clear structure and student autonomy.
4. Summary & Objectives: We end each session with a recap of the key points so that the student knows exactly what to revise.
