Hi, my name is Gabriel. I'm the head coach of the chess team of the National University of Mexico (UNAM) since 2010. I speak fluent English as I lived six years in Oxford, England, when I was a child and I practice it since then. With the UNAM's team I have obtained the following titles: National Women's Championship: 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 National Men's Championship: 2018, 2019 Absolute National Championship: 2018, 2019 Panamerican 2013 in Durango: silver medal I also have extensive experience with players of all ages and levels. You will learn how to improve fast and get a better understanding of chess, in all 3 parts of the game (opening, middle game and endgame ) I will try to recognize your weaknesses and fix them, you will learn simple and strong openings + new and very important concepts of middle game + basic and fundamental endgames. You will get a personal training program based on your level. My current fide rating is +2000. As a player, I became champion of my country in university students competition, also i have won many tournaments. As a coach, I have 8 years of teaching experience.

The course is divided into three parts: A theoretical part where I show you typical tactical themes, then the student solves exercises and finally we play games.

Passionate about the game of chess since my childhood, I ranked in the top 3 of Quebec and Canada (top 1 the last two years that I played) in the categories of my age for several years in a row, until in the under 16 section, where I stopped competing. I make sure that they are participants in the lesson and not spectators. I generally end the lesson with a game against them where I expressly leave a few errors lying around, so as to create spontaneous didactic moments (sometimes with a hint!). A brief summary of the mistakes made during the game follows, which serves as a hook for the next lesson. Two of my students (with whom I have been working for 2 years) finished 1st and 5th in their respective age categories at the last Belgian youth championships. ♟️ Courses on the internet: For online lessons, I use Discord or Skype to chat and share my camera, as well as the lichess platform to analyze and show games or exercises. The latter has a tool allowing the teacher and the student to interact on the same chessboard in real time, and to show ideas using arrows and colored boxes. The student can find all the previous lessons at any time by consulting the work sessions archived on the platform. ♟️ Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. I am available in case you have questions outside of class, I am happy to answer them.
