I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

I am a fully qualified primary school teacher based in Falkirk with over 15 years of experience particularly in the upper primary level. If your child needs additional input in English or Maths to help them reinforce their classroom learning or if they are looking to extend themselves to work at Third Level in preparation for High School or Entrance Exams, then I am here to help. After our initial ‘get to know you’ session, I will build a program of learning that will support your child in all identified areas, helping them to feel more confident with concepts or skills they have found tricky to master as well as challenge them to reach their full potential moving towards higher level learning. Mathematics is often seen as a problem area for many students and their ‘tricky’ subject. With every student that identifies this as an area for development, my focus is on building a strong foundation in maths reinforcing key concepts, using key problem-solving strategies as well as developing critical thinking skills. Through the use of real-world, tangible examples, I will help students develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and how they can be applied in their own lives. This work will be followed up with targeted areas for further practice, consolidation and/or additional challenge. During my writing sessions, I will guide students in developing their practical writing skills, i.e. grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and organisation of points/plot. Whilst encouraging creativity throughout, I will ensure there are multiple opportunities for students to express themselves through various writing genres. We will also work on editing and reviewing with feedback sessions built in to help consolidate the techniques introduced. I strongly believe that reading is the key to unlocking a whole world of knowledge and imagination. In my reading sessions, I will focus on developing essential skills such as phonics, fluency, comprehension, and vocab. Through a variety of activities, including reading aloud, guided reading, discussion and analysis, I will help students improve their reading abilities, expand their literary horizons, and hopefully, foster a lifelong love for books. I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons to students of all levels. As a pianist with 14 years of teaching experience and over 23 years of playing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the course of learning piano. If the student is interested in a more serious approach, I can also guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions and for various competitions. Recently, my students have achieved the highest marks in the ABRSM exams as well as prizes in competitions. We also have a class concert for interested students twice per year. I am happy working in both a relaxed and serious approach, we simply need to discuss the objectives of the student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music." Prior to this, I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota and TCU-Fort Worth, TX, USA. My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist in orchestra (also as a harpist), and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio and look forward to meeting new students.
