About Me

I am a very personable and engaging tutor whose main aim is to focus my lessons around the unique needs and interests of each individual.

I have extensive experience working with students of all ages, particularly with children. I have tutored piano and singing regularly both privately, and occasionally in various educational institutions (e.g. Perseid School, Merton, for children with severe learning disabilities).

Please do get in touch with any questions you might have - I'd be more than happy to help out!

Education

University of Bristol: History BA (Hons) (2:1)
A-Levels: Music (A*), History (A*), Latin (A)
GCSE: 14 A*

Music -
Instruments - Singing (Grade 8), Violin (Grade 8), Piano (Grade 6), Music Theory (Grade 6)
Royal College of Music Junior Department

Experience / Qualifications

I have extensive experience in both

Music:

I participated in all aspects of music throughout my time at KCS Wimbledon including singing in the Chamber Choir, playing in the school orchestras and singing in several smaller groups and bands.
At University of Bristol I was a Vice-Chancellor Music scholar for 3 years and again participated in all aspects of music, including singing in the Chamber Choir and also playing in the University Symphony Orchestra. Aside to this, I have played in orchestras for productions put on by the University Opera Society and for post-graduate composition concerts and recordings.

And Acting:

I also took part in all the school plays, in both the Junior and Senior schools including acting several main roles in plays such as A Midsummer’s Night Dream, The Producers, South Pacific, Sweeney Todd, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. I was also part of a professional radio drama, Charlie’s Choice, produced by Lamplighter Theatre in 2009/10. I also worked extensively with students with severe learning disabilities from Perseid School.
At university I was cast in my first year as the lead role, Sweeney Todd, in the Bristol University Opera Society production of Sweeney Todd and I also performed in Bernstein’s Candide and the university production of Mack & Mabel. I was also cast in a verbatim piece called 'Cherry' which was taken up to the Edinburgh Fringe 2017 and was very well received gaining 4 or 5 star reviews across the board and also meriting a review from the national newspaper, The Scotsman.

I completed my undergraduate degree in History at University of Bristol attaining a 2:1, achieving a 1st in my dissertation on the impact of rock 'n' roll on British society.

I am now studying on the Acting MA at Arts Ed and look forward to starting my career as a professional actor.

Really really enjoyable lesson with Mikey - a very engaging and confident tutor who made me feel immediately at ease.
Vocal confidence is crucial in every walk of life, and singing is a fantastic way to boost it. Each voice is unique and should be both heard and celebrated. These classes are designed to encourage pupils to release themselves from the pressures that often come with singing, acting and public speaking, allowing the individual to find confidence in their own voice. My work is applicable to singing, acting monologues and public speaking so, whatever your focus, I can draw on years of experience and tuition to help. I am a very experienced singer and musician, who trained in Acting at the prestigious Arts Ed, London. My main aim is to build on a pupil's passion and own interests, prioritising an enjoyable, tailored approach to learning.
Having studied History throughout my academic life, both at school and at university, I now specialise in providing support for students of all ages. Whether you're preparing for an exam and need structured, results-based teaching, or prefer to have a more casual environment for discussion, I offer an engaging range of lessons focussing around a variety of historical periods. The lessons will focus on the periods of history that the student is primarily interested in, whilst also developing a greater understanding of the various historical methodologies that can be used more broadly when examining the chosen periods and themes.

William
Professional Actor offering Acting Tuition for Drama School Auditions, LAMDA Exams & Much More
My Lessons and What I Teach: My main job as an Acting Tutor is to spark your imagination and guide you, at your own pace, to a place where you can take ownership over both your craft as a performer AND your own self-expression as an individual. My teaching practise is about meeting the individual needs of the student: • If you are someone with the ambition of going to Drama School or pursuing a career as an Actor - I have a programme that I can provide you with that will give you the best possible chance of getting you to the next stage in your career. • Similarly, if you are a child/teenager/adult who is looking to gain Performance qualifications with the LAMDA Exam Board - I have 3 years experience in preparing students for the Acting, Verse & Prose and Public Speaking Exams that LAMDA offer and would be able to guide you through fulfilling your potential in these exams. • Equally, if you are someone who just wants to feel you can articulate yourself more confidently in everyday and professional life - I am also qualified to provide you with skills and techniques to support you in making that possible. Fundamentally, my lessons are tailor made to ensure the needs of the individual are prioritised above all else. I therefore have varying tutoring programmes depending on what it is you want to get out of the sessions. Methodology: My teaching is rooted in the belief that Playing is the most effective way of Working. I employ techniques used by Konstantin Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov, Jerzy Grotowski, Patsy Rodenburg, Rudolf Laban and many other practitioners to provide you with a diverse tool-kit that you can take ownership of and use in a way that suits you. Regardless of what you want to get of the sessions, these 5 main areas of focus remain as a constant at the bedrock my practise in order to ensure a rounded and cohesive training. They are as follows: 1. Physical Ease and Engagement 2. Vocal Ease and Engagement 3. Sense of Play and Use of Imagination 4. Textual Comprehension 5. Stagecraft and Understanding the Theatrical Space

Jose Raul
Performance for Film or Theater taught by experienced teacher
Whether they are group or individual, I teach according to the particularities and needs of each student. For this I work with several theorists of Theater and Acting: Stanislavsky, Strasberg, Brecht, Meyerhold, Grotowsky, Barba, Santiago García, Jonhstone, Boal, Meisner, Psychodrama, Layton, Magical or Transcendent Acting, Commedia dell'Arte, among others. The courses develop and release the expression of the body, voice, feelings, concentration, imagination, the ability to improvise on stage and encourage play as a way of learning. The assembly of plays or filming of short films is one of the purposes that I pursue, as I consider it essential to put into practice the skills and knowledge acquired. What makes me special is the excellent treatment with my students, full of respect and the depth in the acting sense to which I am taking them. What pleases me the most is the radical change that they have once the courses finish. The workshops are aimed at children, adolescents, youth and adults with no age limit. In the case of group classes, they are divided according to their age.
