About Me

I'm a PhD candidate in neuropsycholinguistics and consultant to private clients. My advisory clients include the House of Lords, the NHS, People Primetime International, the Manchester Metropolitan University, Falmouth University, the Emotional Intelligence Academy, the YMCA, the Y Club, the Castelfield Hotel, the National Citizenship Service, Equal Education, etc. My mentoring clients range pre-academic, academic, and professional contexts. My PhD research examines the composite language and communication phenomena of schizophrenia, as relative to figurative language processing, using experimental psycholinguistic methods; my master's dissertation focused on paralinguistics: blended displays (i.e. complex facial expressions) of emotion; and my bachelor's took the form of a stylistics combined honours (i.e. linguistics with creative writing). My vocational experience includes a substantive clinical education post within NHS psychiatric services—specifically, as an interpersonal communications tutor; in parallel, I've provided consultancy services since 2011.

Academic, research and artistic skills for artists and writers.
There are many young artists out there that are unaware of what they can do with their unique skills. Being a university student myself and by having experience teaching younger years, my class will be able to provide artists with the knowledge and advice for establishing themselves as artists, practitioners, writers and photographers. I will be able to provide this guidance and teach how to relate art to political and societal issues as well as advice on developing artistic skills such as drawings, paintings, photo-editing, film works, collages, and many other art forms.

This class is perfect for everyone from absolute beginners to novice poets.

Lee
Songwriting Tuition For Beginners, Students, Anyone
This class is for anyone interested in writing their own songs. The core of it will be week-by-week feedback sessions for a new song you are working on. I will be encouraging you to write a new song every week - this can be a finished song or just a snippet of an idea. Writing one song a week will not only motivate you to write more material, but it will also allow you to practise the craft of songwriting regularly and with many different types of songs and ideas. The feedback sessions will be very relaxed, discussing the positive aspects of your song, as well as looking at the things to improve on in order to take it to the next level. One of the most important things to me, is to tailor my class specifically to your needs and interests. For example, if you want to write pop songs, then we'll focus in that area particularly. Or if you want to write songs based on the guitar, piano etc, then again, we'll focus on this particularly. The main thing is that the class suits you. Also, in order to inspire you and supplement your songwriting skills, we will be studying lyrics from many different types of songs, taking a close look at what the lyric means and what makes it effective. This additional aspect of the class will help you develop a sharper understanding of lyric writing which you can then apply to your own songs.

Writing an outstanding statement of purpose, personal statement essay for college and university applications.
Every year, universities and colleges receive thousands of applications from which they make final offers to a fraction. An excellent statement of purpose / personal statement essay is often the reason behind a selected and rejected application. How do you emphasise the strengths to your best advantage? Do you want your statement of purpose/ personal statement in your college application to stand out? I can make a substantial difference to your application. I have experience in writing hundreds of essays and can help you make the final cut to get into your dream college. I have a good understanding of how admission committees at various universities evaluate essays and can therefore help you put your best foot forward on your application. Contact me for further details and I'll respond within four hours.

Sietse
Writing coach - creative writing, playwriting, blogs etc.
As a writer (mainly playwriting, but also songs, columns and essays) I'm very interested in helping you either to start writing, or to better your writing. We'll work mostly by practicing and discussing your work. If you prefer to zoom in on theoretics, I'm happy to guide you in that as well. I'm a professional playwriter and dramaturg (and studied at LUCA School of Arts with Nico Boon, Freek Mariën and Nathan Vecht). I previously taught playwriting in different groups (CREA, Buitenkunst) and work as a scriptadvisor for professional theatre makers. Maksims
Storytelling. Starting point of a good story or script.
Stories are as old as we are, but if you want to put a story on paper or portray a story, it turns out to be more difficult than talking to your friends. How about now? Not what you tell, but HOW you tell it is the most important. The basics and how to use psychology to write a story, this is what you will learn anyway. Those who want to continue afterwards will learn how to write a script. Fiction or facts, you decide what you want to learn.
