This workshop is for anyone who has an interest in learning about the the craft of working with leather. This workshop will introduce the tools and products used to create high quality handmade leather goods. The primary skill set being taught at this workshop will be hand stitching leather along with the use and manipulation of basic leather tools. You will get the chance to learn a craft that is old as civilization itself! Our goal for this workshop is to allow participants to get to know the tools and techniques behind the creation of leather goods, and develop interest in this field of work.. We hope that this will encourage further exploration of this fascinating and deeply rewarding craft. Workshop Schedule: Short Introduction of Leather Working 1. Leather Working Styles 2. Leather Types Introduction of Basic Hand Tools 1. Needles & Threads 2. Sewing Awls 3. Sewing Clam 4. Pricking Irons 5. Cutting & Burnishing Tools Introduction of How to Saddle Stitch 1. Thread preparation and waxing 2. Leather Marking and Use of Pricking Irons 3. Saddle Stitching - Technique Practical exercise in Saddle Stitching 1. Scoring a stitching line using dividers/creasers 2. Proper Stitching Technique 3. Practice!!! Break Creation of a Small Leather wallet
