    This course will introduce students to the basic concepts, theories, methods and the major steps involved in conducting both a research study & action research. The areas covered include: the research process and the structure of the enquiry process; different methods of observation and data collection; techniques for analyzing and presenting data and writing the research report. As a result of familiarizing the student with various research approaches, he/she will apply this knowledge to the Belizean society in a course project. The rationale of this course is to give a well-rounded view of the discipline to students who take only an introductory course; to provide a social science support core course; and to provide, for those who plan to concentrate in the social sciences, the necessary background for further study. Hence, upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: • Understand the steps involved in conducting a research study. • Understand the elements of the research design in the social sciences & action research. • Understand quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methodologies. • Develop insightful and practical research questions and hypotheses • Develop the appropriate presentation and writing skills necessary for the proper dissemination of research findings. • Identify and explain the major ethical dilemmas of the research process • Engage in the research process by conducting a research project.
