The Relationships Communication course is an experiential approach to everyday intra- and interpersonal processes. It emphasizes observation, practice, and discussion of such topics as self-disclosure, trust, verbal and nonverbal expression of feelings, listening skills, conflict resolution, anger and stress management, and the value of cultivating diverse relationships, while considering personal ethics, biases, and values in intra- and interpersonal processes. Basic psychological principles will be presented in mini-lecture form and integrated into classroom dialogue. Class participation is an essential component of this course as emphasis is on skill development. It is psychology for daily living - for all of us. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Describe the value of interpersonal relationships and skills 2. Explain the skills necessary for interpersonal effectiveness 3. Apply the principles of effective communication 4. Evaluate one's own intrapersonal growth 5. Explain how interacting with diverse individuals can enhance self-awareness
This course examines the primary theory of personality with emphasis on personal growth and development, interpersonal communication, and relationship development. Theories representing the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator are reviewed and the implications of these theories are discussed.
