I specialise in helping students progress through ABRSM grades and Grade 5 Theory as well as GCSE practical exams. I hold a performance diploma for violin (ARSM) and have achieved distinction in ABRSM grade 8 violin. Academically, I achieved GCSE music Grade 9, A-level music A* in performance and composing, A in appraising. Outside of my academic life, I have performed as a first violinist in youth orchestras as well as being the concert master in inter school orchestra (ISSP). Moreover I have had experience playing as a wedding violinist and gained extensive solo recital and chamber performance experience being in quartets. My teaching focuses on clear and measurable progress that are applicable in exams especially in core techniques: posture, bowing, intonation and musical interpretation. Estella is a very positive, always happy teacher. Even though my son has been having on-line lessons with her, we can always feel her positive attitude during the lessons. She is very patient, gives lots of important tips and feedback, which has been helping him to guide his learning, improving in every aspect of it. We can see how much she care about the whole learning experience. It’s been very useful to expend his time while at home doing the lessons. He has been practicing more and has been feeling more motivated since he started the lessons with her. We definitely recommend her as a Saxophone teacher!

She speaks perfect English, which is incredibly helpful for us foreigners, and her studio in Gangnam is very convenient. Dr. Yu is highly professional and talented, and she genuinely cares about helping her students succeed. Her lessons are both engaging and effective, making learning the violin a rewarding experience. Plus, there are two recitals each year that are a lot of fun to participate in. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their skills.
