About Me

I'm an Italian jazz pianist based in The Netherlands. Throughout my musical career, I've been involved in and supported various projects and ensembles, bringing my passion for jazz music.

My piano playing is shaped by diverse experiences, spanning from jazz to soul/hip-hop, funk, and acoustic piano trio, with live performances dating back to 2013.

I have several years of experience teaching students of all levels, and I truly enjoy sharing my passion for music. I love studying and practicing alongside my students, often discovering new things together in the process!

Education

After earning his bachelor's degree in jazz piano at the “A. Scarlatti Conservatory of Palermo” in 2017, he specialized in 2024 at the “Royal Conservatory of The Hague” in the Netherlands with his research project, Composing Inspired by Classical Music through the Music of John Taylor, dedicated to exploring the connections between the music of Scottish pianist John Taylor and classical music.

Experience / Qualifications

Throughout my career, I performed on the stages of numerous prominent festivals, both in Italy and abroad. These include the concert series organized by Keep An Eye Foundation in Amsterdam, PJPJ Festival in Voorschoten, Sicily Jazz Festival, Europa Fest in Bucharest, Freedom Jazz Festival in Italy, Jazz in Sardegna, Beatfull Festival and Palermo Piano City in Sicily.

Writing and composition have always been integral to my journey, developing multiple repertoires of original pieces for his current projects. In 2017, I formed the band “Jackinthebox,” with whom I released my first EP, Lullabies, in 2023, featuring soul/RnB sounds with influences from jazz and hip-hop, in collaboration with rapper and producer Eramo Nubi.

In 2022, I formed my current group, “Qanat Trio,” exploring and blending classical music with contemporary jazz. In August 2024, they recorded their debut album at Studio 150 in Amsterdam.

Over the years, I also deepened my knowledge in the field of recording and production, working on and overseeing my projects from this perspective as well. I gained experience in the use of DAWs and mixing, along with micking techniques and recording processes.

Start the new course learning to play piano!

I am a professional classical pianist, accompanist, creator, and composer with a Bachelor's Degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and a Master's Degree from the Royal Conservatorium in the Hague. For 7 years now, I have been teaching students of all levels between 5 and 60 years old.

Lessons are based on your level, interests, and goals. Together we can find out if you are keener on classical repertoire, or if you want to play your favorite pop music, some beautiful soundtrack from a movie you like or compose/improvise new pieces. With my experience in teaching diverse genres, I will help you explore the music that you like.

The central pillars I always work with are technique and creativity, which are much more connected than you would expect! While we advance, I also introduce the basics (or more deeply, if you are interested) of music theory to learn to communicate with each other in musical terms (chords, keys, score reading, etc.). And above all, the goal is to enjoy and have fun!

I am a 32-year old composer, electric guitarist and songwriter based in Den Haag, teaching composition, music theory, and score writing. I teach in English or in Greek. I am half Greek and half Scottish and I have been living in the Netherlands for the last 6 years.

I offer lessons in all styles, to all age groups, and for any experience level (ranging from students who want to learn how to read and write music to create their first score, up to more experienced composers who are looking for fresh ideas and improving their skills to really make their music shine, or who are looking for help polishing their composition portfolio for entrance exams).

My Credentials:
I hold a Bachelors of Music degree from Birmingham Conservatoire (UK), and a Masters of Music from The Hague Royal Conservatory. My compositions have been performed in venues such as The Muziekgebouw (Amsterdam), TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht), Korzo Theatre (Den Haag), Casa de Musica (Porto), Onassis Stegi (Athens) and at music festivals including Music in PyeongChang (South Korea), Tectonics Athens (Greece), Gaudeamus Muziekweek (Netherlands). My experience as a performer range from classical guitar studies, to playing electric guitar in rock bands, as well as experience as an improviser, performer of notated contemporary classical compositions, creator and performer of ambient and electronic music. I also am very experienced in ambient and electronic-influenced guitar music, which has given me an in depth knowledge also of the guitar in combination with technology such as guitar effects, computer software and multichannel setups which expand the audio palette of the guitar. I have written songs, I have written orchestra pieces, I have worked as a DIY home producer, I have released albums, and I've performed in concert halls, rock venues, squats and festivals. I even some experience in beat-making.

My music has been performed in and has taken me to several countries, including Portugal, The Czech Republic, The U.S.A., Canada, Korea, Greece, The U.K., The Netherlands.

My Teaching style:
My emphasis is to teach you based on your interests and your needs. The lessons are based around each individual student. You bring me the music you are creating and the skills you want to develop as a composer, and I build my lessons around that. My primary goal is help you develop your voice as a composer, so the starting point for our lessons will always be your music.
My aim is always to help you find what the heart of your composition is about, and help you to bring this out and really make it shine. To help illustrate ideas about topics we discuss I will bring examples that can help inform the music you are creating, we will explore ideas of arrangement, orchestration, rehearsal leading and / or production to help flesh out your music, as well as music theory and using scores of other composers.

I have been teaching both the pedal and lever harp for the past 5 years to students ranging from 7 years old to 50! I am very passionate about teaching and hope to inspire my students to love music just as much as I do! I take a patient approach to each student and after a short period of time I am always happy to see great progress in my students playing. Several of my students have won international competitions in 'The Feis Ceoil' in Dublin and have also gone onto study music in university. Do you like experimenting with sound and making music that does not clearly belong to a particular genre or style? - how to record, edit and mix sounds using both conventional and experimental techniques.

Aspiring musicians with a background in any genre can take advantage of this course. A formal education in music or experience with electronic music composition are not required to follow. However, you should be unafraid of experimenting with sound and music technology! Each class is customized to meet the needs of the individual student in an innovative and flexible way! The course can also serve as a preparation for applying to several Dutch educational programmes related to electronic music composition (Institute of Sonology, HKU, ArtEZ, etc.).

The class is focused on small assignments that help the student develop a sense of orientation and set goals.
Recording, editing, and mixing will be done via the DAW "Reaper," but we can switch to your preferred software at any time. We will use the first lesson to discuss your background, interests, and motivations in order to develop a course structure that is tailored to your needs.

With this course, you'll learn the KNOW-HOW of making your own music from start to finish. We will go through; inspiration, composing, arranging, production, mixing, mastering, and release. Anything that is part of a fundamental understanding of music, e.g. music theory, solfège, rhythm and piano will be taught. For me it is very important that the lessons is specifically made for the students regarding content and length. If asked violin and ballett can be taught as well. In that way the necessary aspects of a well rounded musician can be built up.
