Master the Art of Oil Painting: From First Stroke to Final Varnish With 20+ Years of Professional Experience, American gallery artist Danny offers a mentorship that blends technical precision, and contemporary surreal and underground style methods, with the soul of traditional fine art. Whether you are an 8-year-old picking up a brush for the first time or a retiree looking to finally master the "Medium of Masters," I offer a patient, technical, and highly flexible approach to oil painting. Oil painting has a reputation for being "difficult," but it is actually the most forgiving medium once you understand the rules. My goal isn't just to teach you to paint—it's to teach you to see like an artist. Why Study With Me? Tailored Mentorship: I don’t use a "one size fits all" curriculum. We paint what you are passionate about, whether it’s a family pet, a surreal landscape, or a classic portrait. All Ages Welcome: I specialize in guiding teenagers (8–18) through foundational skills, but I find that adults often appreciate the deeper "why" behind color theory and composition. Adaptive Pace: Whether you want a structured technical course or a relaxed, therapeutic creative outlet, I adapt to your comfort level and goals. Lessons will be in English as I am still learning Dutch. "I’m have been an active painter in the Pop-Surrealist and Lowbrow scene and Arts District participant in Las Vegas, NV, USA. My work isn't about stiff portraits or museum stillness—it’s about narrative, urban energy, and technical mastery applied to subjects that actually matter today. I teach the 'old world' techniques of oil painting, but we use them to create 'new world' art. I’m a working artist, not a theorist. For 20 years, I’ve been in the trenches of oil painting and digital design. I don't care about 'high-art' pretension; I care about the physics of paint, the flow of a brush, and helping you find your own visual voice." Ready to start? I am available for lessons at your home in Amsterdam or at a neutral creative space. I can also offer veranda style outdoors space in my home in Weesp, if the weather is being generous!

Trusted teacher: Undergo with your love, muse, partner, or all of these at once, a romantic course of painting a nude. One of you will give up their clothes for a morning, afternoon or evening, whilst the other paints them in the style of a famous nude portrait of their choice, (like Venus of Urbino - 1585 by Titian). Hosted by Artists and art historians Tonny and Janne Igbuwe. They will take you on a sensory journey through history, intimacy and artistry. You'll be invited into the Artist's studio (decorated like the chosen painting to the best of our ability) where you'll be received with a drink and a small appetizer. Trusted teacher: Note: ALL SUPPLIES & TOOLS ARE PROVIDED FOR THE STUDENTS FOR THE FIRST TEN (10) LESSONS — All canvas, stretcher-bars, panels, paper, brushes, pens, pencils, ink, charcoal, paints, varnish, etc. The finished artworks are, of course, your to keep. There are many ways to create a so-called "realistic" oil painting. And there are many visual tools that an artist can use to make a beautiful visual statement. Whether using thick impastos, thin washes of solvent-based color, bodied glazes, or mixed media elements, each technique can yield an engaging visual experience. Painting is, after all, a means of communication. In this course, we will begin with the basic ideas and techniques for drawing and painting forms as the eye sees them. You will learn every stage for producing aesthetically pleasing and technically strong oil paintings. We will discuss concepts and ideas for painting, developing different studies, stretching the canvas, line drawing, tonal lay-in, dead-coloring (or color block-in), and modeling the forms (1st painting, 2nd painting, and finishing). We will also cover the techniques of alla prima or premier coup (direct painting in one pass). We will also study the formal methods of composition, different kinds of perspectives, paint surface and paint quality (facture), and proportions. And, of course, we will discuss the use of varnishes, including the final picture varnish. Stay calm and confident if some of these terms are new to you. We will adapt the lessons for each artist. I will help you to learn, understand, and perform each step of the painting process. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced painter: there is something for you!

Trusted teacher: In this unique lesson series, led by Naomi Mitsuko Makkelie, you will explore the powerful connection between art and psychology. With Naomi's academic background in both visual arts and psychology, she offers an in-depth perspective on how painting can serve as a therapeutic medium. This course is designed for individuals of all ages and skill levels who are interested in using painting and drawing as a means of personal development and healing. These classes focus on intuitive painting, a technique that encourages participants to explore their subconscious feelings, memories, and even unresolved traumas. Through this expressive art form, participants are given the opportunity to explore and express their inner world in a non-verbal manner, opening a unique path to healing and self-discovery. What You Can Expect Guidance from an expert in both Art and Psychology: Naomi guides participants through the process of intuitive painting, offering techniques that help bring the subconscious to the surface. A Supportive Environment: Each participant is encouraged to work at their own pace and explore their personal experiences. Personal Development: The focus is on the process, not the end product. Participants learn how to use art as a form of self-care and self-expression. Therapeutic Techniques: In addition to painting techniques, exercises will be introduced that focus on mindfulness and strengthening the mind-body connection. Location: Treehouse NDSM, Amsterdam, or location chosen by the student. For Who?: Suitable for adults, children and teenagers. Duration: Best results are determined when the course involves multiple sessions (exact number and dates to be determined), but a single session is also possible. Materials: All necessary materials are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring personal items that can serve as inspiration. By approaching art as a means of self-exploration and healing, Naomi offers a unique opportunity to grow both as an artist and an individual. These classes are more than an art course; it is a journey into the heart of your own creative and emotional landscape.
