I am bilingual Dutch-English with a lot of speaking and writing experience, speak English daily with my Australian partner and enjoy passing on my knowledge to others. In addition, I have a lot of patience for people who have difficulties with different parts of English. I can offer help with sentence structure, grammar, pronunciation, reading skills and vocabulary practice, in order to give you or your child more certainty and guidance in the language. With students I focus on the problem points that exist and I use the school method. If, for example, it appears that a solid foundation is still missing, I can jump in and offer support in learning this. For (young) adults who are not (or no longer) in school, we will mainly focus on vocabulary, correct sentence structure and grammar in the beginners' lessons. However, I also quickly start speaking, reading and listening. With advanced students I focus on, among other things, speaking and listening skills and advanced word use by holding conversations together, watching documentaries and reading books. In 2023, I've obtained a Master degree in Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. I've achieved the C1+ levels in English, on the CEFR scale. I have 2 years of experience living in London, where I acquired RP (received pronunciation) and 7 years of experience in the International Academia (Amsterdam). My linguistic background gives me the capacity to explain the sounds and various processes of the language, from a perspective many natives do not know. In teaching, I practice the holistic approach. It is my belief that language is for people of every age and education, but I'm aware that everyone deserves a personal approach. I recently enrolled my daughter (Dutch native) in English lessons with this teacher and I must say, the experience has been fantastic. My daughter has learned so much in the past few weeks and it's all thanks to the teacher's fun and engaging approach to teaching. The lessons are always interactive and my daughter loves them. She looks forward to her English class every week and I can see a noticeable improvement in her language skills. In terms of vocabulary, I had a good foundation through Duolingo. Decided to take one-to-one lessons with Palina to also improve grammar and listening and speaking skills. Now at lesson 4 and very happy with my choice :). After saying hello (in Russian of course) the lesson starts with a listening or speaking practice, followed by a short repetition of the grammar rule of the previous lesson and the introduction of a new grammar rule. Keep in mind, however, that the structure of lessons may depend on your level of Russian.

Valentyna is an excellent teacher. She is always extremely well-prepared. The level of her lessons is very well pitched: each lesson builds on the work of the previous lesson and I am always challenged throughout the lesson. This means I have learned a lot in a very short space of time and I can see the progress I am making. Valentyna is also very friendly and the atmosphere of the classes is very good.
