Mathematics is a highly sought skill in any job or career. In my experience, the beginning of high school is when students decide if they love or hate maths; this is an important time to show them that it isn't that scary! Everything has a reason and, if you learn it right, can feel like cheating!

This class helps students learn how and why mathematics works the way it does, crushes their fear of complex equations or concepts, and instills a newfound confidence and appreciation. From learning how counting works to nailing your Higher maths exam, this class is tailored to the student!
Lessons are aimed at students in high school, however anyone outwith this who wants to learn about these topics is more than welcome!
Extra information
I will provide any materials for in-person lessons such as worksheets, textbooks, and basic stationery. Students in S2 or above are expected to have a scientific calculator, however I can bring a spare.

For online classes, students just need a reliable internet connection and some method of taking notes or trying practice questions.

About Me
I have mentored hundreds of students over three years. From teaching P1s how to write numbers to S6s preparing for their examinations, I always pride myself in personalising the lessons to the student. High school is a difficult time and students don't often have a strong support system to help them understand what mathematics is, let alone attempt it!
My work adage is to try! Even if it is completely wrong, you'll have put the effort in and learned something in the process.
Education
I completed my National 5s, Highers, and Advanced Highers before beginning university, where I achieved a BSc in Mathematics. Alongside this, I have various miscellanious qualifications and skills to help any student.
Experience / Qualifications
I have tutored for 3 years, helping students from various backgrounds and skill levels. I have taught many students who are studying for exams and helped advance their skill and understanding.

Overview:
I offer bespoke tutoring services to school pupils and individuals studying History, Politics, and English. With a background in History and experience in the teaching and media sectors, I provide a professional, insightful, and comprehensive service aimed at improving a client's understanding of a topic, their confidence within it, and targeting specific issues and skills as required.

I also provide advice on university selection and applications, building on experience as an applicant myself and coach for successful applicants to highly selective universities (including Oxford, St Andrews, and UCL).

Teaching methodology:
I believe that the best way to teach is to communicate, work out the student's needs with them, and proceed from there. We live in a diverse world, and it's important to reflect that diversity in teaching. I believe in using a variety of sources to help teach, ranging from films, to books, to music clips. This is particularly important in the context of clients with LS needs, as a focus on one kind of source can impact the pupil's experience, and hinder their success.

My lessons are based on a core Learning Objective, changing from lesson to lesson with the curriculum. Around that, there will be a series of case studies, examples, and anecdotes, with personalised support for exam answers if required. Half the battle with the humanities is ensuring that good ideas are communicated well- I seek to teach history and support the development of those communication skills to ensure that the pupil's ability is reflected.
