Saxophone lessons: Enjoy becoming an all-round musician (EN, NL, HB)

Enjoy becoming an independent & all-round musician!!

My aim as a Saxophone & music teacher is to give you the ability to develop skills that will make you enjoy "music-making" and love exploring all kinds of songs/musical pieces. Also, I give you tools to be able to cooperate with other musicians.

The methods I use are focused around goals that I create together with each individual student (and/or parents). Our goals are based on both the student's passion & musical desires together with the technical needs to make these desires sound! (control over the instrument, reading music notation, music theory, Improvisation, composition, ear-training and more). Music is a powerful language that everyone around the world can understand, but not all can speak yet...
Music-making involves Joy, curiosity, self-expression and a feeling of being a part of something bigger than yourself!

Practical Info:
- Normally, lessons take place at my location in Amsterdam. (call to discuss other options)
- I work with both kids (from age 8/9) and adults, (total) beginners, amateurs & semiprofessionals alike
- I play & teach: Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Baritone Saxophones (Flute & Bass-Clarinet for beginners as well)

** FOR PARENTS **
- Music making teaches you about how to build long-lasting dedication & successful work ethics that can be implemented throughout life, in any filed!
- Music teaches you how to express thoughts & feelings and can be important for a growth of a child.
- Music is a rich lifestyle, and opening a child to that world is a great gift that a parent can give to his/her child.

About Me

As a teacher:
Creating a fun, positive, at times funny and flexible learning environment together with a true drive and determination to music education is what I am all about as a teacher.
I can also be persistent when needed, but mainly about the way the student approaches his/her tasks, and not necessarily their results...

*Fun fact: I worked as a surfing instructor for many years!
Surfing taught me interesting methods for teaching that I use at times (before I moved to the Netherlands).

As a musician (highlights!):
- I won several prizes, scholarships & competitions including: The Dutch Jazz Competition, KVEMA competition and Keep an Eye Award (incentive).
- I played in: North Sea Jazz Festival, Bimhuis, Tivolivredenburg, Paradiso Amsterdam, Melkweg, Jazz In Duketown, Grachtenfestival, Jamboree Jazz (Barcelona), B flat Jazz club (Berlin), amongst others.
- Not only Jazz! I also take part in other musical projects including: Son Mieux (NL Pop) and Valvetronic (Brassband, Hiphop, Electronic/EDM).

Education

Certificates:
- Finishing an MA degree in Jazz performance in Conservatorium van Amsterdam (AHK University)
- BA degree in Jazz performance in Conservatorium van Amsterdam (AHK University)
- Two-year BA degree Jazz performance program: “CJS” as part of “The New School” university, New York (graduated with "Cum-laude" title)

Early life musical education:
I started learning Saxophone at the age of 8 years old in Tel Aviv conservatory with the saxophonist of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. After a few years, I won several scholarships and prizes that led me to perform as a “young soloist” with a professional orchestra several times at the ages of 12 & 13 years old.

Even though I already liked Jazz music, I was mainly focused on classical music until the age of 18 years old. I added Jazz lessons alongside the classical ones at the age of 14 in the conservatory and went to a prestige musical high school in Tel Aviv (Ironi A for the Arts) where I joined the jazz department and eventually graduated with a cum-laude title for: “General & Artistic studies”.

Experience / Qualifications

I started working as a Saxophone & music teacher at the age of 19, and gathered a lot of experience in teaching:

- Private Saxophone lessons: through ICM conservatory (Tel Aviv) and currently in Amsterdam and Amstelveen to both kids and adults.
- “Sulamot”: A social project that provides weekly music lessons to war traumatized children in Israel and low class family immigrants, mainly from the African continent (It is a project by the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and I worked there for 4 years).
- High school level (weekly): Jazz theory lessons, beginner level jazz improvisation lessons and ensemble coaching classes in Ironi A for the Art high school (Tel Aviv, 2015 - 2017)

Other educational experiences:
- One year volunteer civil service in a school of autistic kids as a teacher assistant staff
- Surf instruction (with certificate): More than 8 years of working experience with children & adults in groups and private lessons.

One-on-one lessons in classical piano playing. Old or modern music, everything is possible!
I have been playing classical piano for 14 years. Obviously a lot solo, but also in ensembles, as an accompanist for flutists, violinists, clarinetists and singers. I was also a paid rehearsal director and pianist for a music theater company for a while and I played concerts in an orchestra. More importantly, I also enjoy teaching! Whether you are just starting out or have been working for some time, together we can tinker with your technique and execution.

Ludovic
Creative guitar lessons for beginners and intermediate
Hey peeps! I love to give guitar lessons in a relaxed mood that will not put pressure on you, only giving you feedbacks that will improve your practice. The first lessons will generally consist of covering the basics by learning simple songs. Depending on how it goes, we will go straight into learning songs that you want to play, where you will learn even more! I can teach you how to play across several appointments during the week so you'll learn faster and enjoy playing straight from the beginning :) Keep growing ♥️

Hi! My name is Eduardo, a professional musician and long-time music teacher. I am offering physical and online lessons in Music Theory, Improvisation and Instrument. #Harmony #Composition #Solfège #Saxophone #Clarinet #Piano Lessons are addressed to every student profile, regardless of age, level of expectations (no matter if it is seen as a hobby or rather if the individual is getting prepared for official Conservatory auditions, etc.). We will play and/or focus on what the student is willing to deepen into (whatever music style they are interested in, more theoretical aspects or rather practical ones), trying to get the maximum profit of the employed time, and prioritising the actual learning of the person as the main factor for their motivation. I obtained my Jazz Music Master's program at the Prince Claus Conservatoire of Groningen in June 2022. Previously, in 2018, I graduated from my music Bachelor's at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona (Spain).

Antek
Cello, Composition and Music Theory lessons in Amsterdam
Hello there! My name is Antek and i'm a cellist and composer who graduated from Conservatorium van Amsterdam. As a cellist I've had the pleasure and honour of collaborating with renowned artists such as Hans Zimmer, being part of his 2022 European Tour Orchestra, touring over 15 countries and playing in locations such as London's O2 Arena or Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. I am now mainly active as a performer of contemporary/experimental music, as well as classical music, freelancing in various orchestras in the Netherlands, having played in venues such as Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Concertgebouw or TivoliVredenburg. I offer cello lessons, regardless of the level - whether you are a curious beginner or more advanced player, i'm happy to collaborate and share my knowledge and experience with you, as well as inspire your creativity regarding both playing the right notes, and making artistic choices. I can also help you prepare for conservatory entrance exams by providing Solfege, Ear-training and General Music Theory lessons. As a composer, I'm currently pursuing a degree at Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. I can help you work on your ideas, and how to write them down, to sound exactly how you want them to sound. That includes tutorials on engraving rules, orchestration, working in DAWs (Ableton) and using sheet music software (Sibelius, MuseScore), as well as building your craft and workflow. I'm experienced in writing both instrumental and electronic music, as well as performance art, live electronics and multidisciplinary projects. I have also collaborated with institutions like National Polish Radio or CelloWercken Festival Zutphen. I hope to hear back from you soon and I'm looking forward to start working on your musical journey! Peace and Love Antek

Wilma
Cello lessons for children & adults, of all levels - in Utrecht, Amsterdam, and Zaandam
Hi! My name is Wilma, and I’m a professional cellist. I’ve been playing the cello for most of my life. When I was 3 years old, I saw a woman playing cello on the street, and I fell in love. A year later I started with lessons, and I’ve been enjoying this gorgeous instrument ever since. In my teaching, I look for an approach that works best for each student individually, and challenge them at their own level. Technique and musicality are equally important, and very much connected in my lessons. I approach the instrument with respect to the functioning of the body as a whole, and look for a way of playing that requires the least amount of effort and unnecessary muscular tension, so that the naturally beautiful sound of the cello can be more free to emerge. I enjoy teaching both children and adults, from beginners to advanced players. At the moment, my students are between the ages of 5-80 years, from absolute beginners to very advanced cellists. For young children, it’s important that a parent can listen along to the lessons, and help them to practice at home. A child’s lesson is different from a grown-up’s: with children I do more games, to introduce them to music in a playful manner, and allow them to get comfortable with the technique without having to think about it too much. With children I also work more auditively, e.g. by playing and singing for them and letting them copy that instead of reading notes right away. Whether you would like to learn to play the cello, refine your skills, or further develop yourself as a musician, I would be delighted to join, accompany and guide you on your musical journey. I speak English, Dutch and Afrikaans, and am happy to teach in any of these languages.

Matteo
Bass lessons for all levels: focus on the music you love
Hi! My name is Matteo, I'm a professional bassist from Brussels, currently based in Amsterdam. I perform and have performed with renowned musicians and bands from many different scenes and styles, bringing me to venues all over the world (USA, UK, Germany, Denmark, France, Romania, Portugal, Spain...). I have a deep passion for music ever since I started playing 16 years ago, and would like to share it with you! Bass is the best! And I want to help you uncover it's full potential. I believe the best way to learn music is to study what you love, and always work from a place of curiosity and passion. Therefore, we will always look together for ways of making the process the most enjoyable and tackle different topics through the music YOU love. The classes are tailored to each individual student: we find the best workflow for you, and adapt the lessons. If you need structure and a clear program, I can provide that; but if you prefer to keep it loose and see as we go, it's all good. All that matters is your continued motivation and progress. Among other things, we can focus on: -Basic technique on the instrument -Learning songs of your choice, with a method that will allow you to learn songs by yourself later on. -Learn about different styles: Pop, Rock, Funk, Soul, Metal, Jazz... -Develop your understanding of music through the instrument (scales, arpeggios...) -Creativity, and improvisation through the use of the material we have studied together -Ear training and music theory -Rhythm, all the way from basic to very advanced -Basic compositional techniques, or fun ways to start composing I have been teaching privately for the past 6 years, with very happy students. I can also teach online if it's better, I also have regular online students with whom we are making great progress. For the lesson, there is no need to bring an instrument: I can lend you one. Looking forward to meeting you!

Does it happen to you too? You're listening to the music and... You Just Can't Take your Focus Off the lower tones, the foundation of the song, The Bass. Let me tell you something: if you do that it means that... You're already Learning! Whether you're listening to pop, rock, r'n'b, jazz, blues, you name it, the Bass is always there to work as the foundation on which the Band can build on. I can guide your curiosity through the discovery of the various bass techniques, we can work together using the music of the artists you love to walk our way in the realm of the Low Tones. Didn't you always want to meet up with those friends of yours and play those songs you all love? That amazing bass riff from Muse, that lovely song from Coldplay or super cool funky Bruno Mars. Or maybe you dream of the warm cuddly sound of the double bass, playing with the bow and feel the vibration of the Wood. Playing some Jazz, along with Miles Davis or Wayne Shorter. With almost 20 years of experience in the low tones world I can guide you in the study of electric bass and double bass. I'm an active performer and touring musician, as well as a master graduated Bass player. (Conservatorium van Amsterdam) We will work together to find what best suites you. Through the music that you love we'll find the right path to discover the world of the Bass. P.S.: (For fearless only) I will teach also the secret art of: “Riding a bike while carrying your bass without getting killed”.
