Drum Set Lessons for All Levels – Led by a Pro Jazz Drummer

Learn to play the drums with a professional jazz drummer with over 20 years of experience. With a background studying jazz in New York and the Netherlands, leading a progressive rock band, and composing symphonic music, I offer a rich and versatile learning experience.

This course starts with foundational technique and rhythmic control, then gradually introduces improvisation at the intermediate level. Advanced students will explore music theory, arrangement, and even composition—developing the skills to become not just a drummer, but a complete musical artist and performer.

Each lesson is tailored to your goals, style, and temperament.

Extra information

Please bring a pair of drumsticks, a metronome (digital or app-based), a practice pad, a music notebook, and a pen or pencil for notes.

About Me

Hey!

I'm a professional drummer with over 20 years of experience behind the kit. I studied jazz performance in New York City and Groningen, and over the years I've played everything from small club gigs to full-blown progressive rock concerts and symphonic compositions.

My teaching style is all about finding what excites you as a player—whether it's tight technique, free-flowing improvisation, or getting into the deeper side of music like theory and composition. I love helping students not just learn to drum, but to grow as well-rounded musicians.

Outside of drumming, I'm also into piano, sound design, and even game development—so if you're someone with a creative streak in multiple areas, we’ll definitely get along.

I started playing kopuz when I was a child. I worked as a professional musician for many years. I attended the masterclasses of master musician Erkan Oğur to improve my kopuz technique. I currently teach music at a primary school and give private instrument lessons.

Some of the topics we have studied in the courses are as follows:

Microtones and Maqam Theory
Alternate Tunings for Kopuz

My basic principle and method in piano teaching are to show how to work on piano as a self-education. Most students cannot continue their studies after they stop working with a teacher. I explain the efficient ways of working with the instrument. I suggest taking 4-8 hours of lessons per month. Each lesson can be between 1-2 hours. It depends on the level of the student.
During the class, I assign students to have at least 20 minutes of finger exercises, then to work on pieces that were individually programmed with the student. Additionally, I give listening, reading, and video as homework. I allow students to send me any progress or questions via recorded video or video interview so that they can follow their work until the next class.
