Woodwind Performance, Improvisation, Jazz Composition, and Music Theory with Chris Translate this text using Google Translate.

Woodwind Performance, Improvisation, Jazz Composition, and Music Theory with Chris Translate this text using Google Translate.

Chris is a New York City-based multi-instrumentalist. A passionate composer and improviser, he has performed as a leader and sideman throughout New York, Boston, Colorado and abroad over the past 15 years. Chris attended the Manhattan School of Music (MM ‘25) and the New England Conservatory of Music (BM ‘23). He has taught privately and within public schools over the past eight years, and loves to help students cultivate their passion for music and instrumental performance. Students can choose to focus entirely on their instrument (saxophone, clarinet, and flute), or can specifically study improvisation, jazz composition, music theory, and ear training. While primarily a jazz musician, Chris is trained in a wide variety of musics including classical, which he diligently studied on the clarinet; popular music and R&B; and world musics, including Brazilian (Choro/Bossa/Samba), Latin-American (Bomba/Timba/Rumba), and West-African styles (Agbekor/Gahu). Some of Chris's many accomplishments include being recognized as a YoungArts Jazz Performance winner for four years in a row; performing abroad in Europe with the inaugural NYO Jazz Band, receiving a Community Performances and Partnerships Ensemble Fellowship at New England Conservatory, and also receiving the George Whitefield Chadwick Medal of musical and academic performance. Chris emphasizes a teaching approach that prioritizes connecting with the student and engaging them in what they’re specifically interested in, while also covering the fundamentals essential to developing ones skills on their instrument or in their field of study. He offers lessons in person, primarily at students's personal residences, and also online via Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime (although in person is highly recommended).

Mastering English Language Arts: Reading, Writing & Critical Thinking SkillsTranslate this text using Google Translate.

As an experienced English Language Arts (ELA) tutor, I offer personalized instruction designed to strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills for students in grades 4 through 12. My approach is student-centered, with lessons tailored to each learner’s unique strengths, challenges, and academic goals. Whether your student needs help improving reading comprehension, mastering essay structure, expanding vocabulary, or preparing for standardized tests, I provide targeted support in a positive and engaging environment. I emphasize the development of analytical skills by guiding students through a variety of texts—literature, nonfiction, poetry, and informational articles—while encouraging thoughtful discussion and evidence-based interpretation. In writing instruction, I focus on helping students craft clear, coherent, and compelling pieces across genres, from persuasive essays to literary analyses and creative narratives. Sessions may include grammar and mechanics instruction, vocabulary development, research skills, and support with school assignments or enrichment activities. I also integrate strategies for organization, time management, and test-taking when needed. My ultimate goal is to build confidence and independence, equipping students with the tools they need to succeed not just in ELA, but across all areas of study. With a supportive and results-driven approach, I strive to make learning meaningful and enjoyable for every student. Let’s work together to unlock your student’s full potential in ELA.

Yoichi is an amazing pianist. As someone with no experience playing Jazz, I found the first lesson very helpful. He brought lead sheets and explained how Jazz music is performed, walked me through some chord structures and gave me some structure for developing a practice routine. He was also very accommodating about our meeting location. I'm looking forward to future lessons with him.

Jorge has a wonderful way with children and was able to engage my young children in a great first Spanish class. They’re very excited to keep learning Spanish from him!

Excelente instructor, muy paciente y amable. Highly recommended 🎸👌
