About Me

Young Belgian composer and saxophonist aged 24 in Bachelor of composition at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, I have been playing the saxophone since I was 5 years old. I graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the Lemmensinstituut of Leuven and the National Conservatory of the Bordeaux Region in classical and contemporary saxophone. I am open to all repertoires, from classical music to jazz, including the different aesthetic trends of contemporary and avant-garde music. My studies in Analysis and Composition at the Brussels Conservatory allowed me to understand the different trends in the History of Music in a different way as well as to develop a more advanced approach to the interpretation of a piece. I play soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone.

- Obtaining the Master of Music specializing in saxophone from the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven in August 2023.

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁
I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,...
After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw!

Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc.

Lessons in piano, harpsichord, and historical and modern cello, with program and repertoire, adapted to the goals and speed of each student, whether young, not so young, or adult, for a general introduction to these instruments, for preparation for high music education, as a supplementary aid for exams in music academies, or for a hobby, or for amateur group music-making, or for developing qualities as concentration, coordination, discipline, expressibility, awareness of styles and music history.
In my teaching, I rely mostly on old traditional methods, books, and repertoire, which have proved their efficiency over the time. I also make use of the teaching tradition of partimenti of the old Neapolitan conservatories - exercises for composing that can be applied from early stage. This not only adds a creative element soon after very beginning, but also teaches via practice the basics of harmony and polyphony.
Lessons can be combined (+30min.) with theory/solfege (ear training), if the student wishes.

I have been teaching for more than 15 years, privately, in Brussels, and in New York in the past, more than 100 students.

I am a professional drummer, composer, and performer based in Brussels, with an active career in jazz, improvised, and creative music across Europe.

Whether your background is rock, pop, world, indie, or anything else, we focus on what serves your music, and on what learning this instrument can become.
