My name is Chen. I’ve been living, performing, and teaching here in Amsterdam for the last few years, and I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in jazz drums from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA).

Offering drum lessons. If you're a complete beginner, don't worry I will take you through the whole process as I learned from my masters. If you are already advanced drummer and would like to learn more specific things I can offer you help with the drumming topics that you want to work on. I have studied at the Conservatory of Ljubljana and I am currently studying jazz at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I have knowledge of various music styles (jazz, rock, pop, hip hop, reggae, funk, improvised music, metal). I offer online or lessons in person in the centre of Amsterdam. We can also have lessons at your location.

Drum and percussion classes with different methodologies depending on the student's objectives. From classes for those who start in the world of the drums to special classes of reinforcement for students who study music to a medium degree.

I offer classes at home where I will prepare the student to overcome his challenges and help him to achieve his dream of being a great musician. I have played and loved the drums since I was 6 years old, and completed grades 1-8 with Trinity Guildhall.
I was taught for 12 years in England, and I aim to pass on what I have learned from my education and playing experience to new students.
I believe that good technique must be practiced in order to access the range of musical expression possible with the drums. I aim to teach it comprehensively and practice it with students rigorously, so that they can develop their creative vocabulary and ultimately apply this to their own practice and playing.
Learning how to listen is essential to playing an instrument. I aim to develop students’ listening and ability to play with sensitivity and feeling, something that is essential when playing with other musicians.
I ultimately want to inspire students to make music. I consider this the most thrilling and creative reason to learn an instrument.

The drumset is one of the most important and powerful instruments in a music ensemble. It does not only provide the rhythm and groove foundation for all the other instruments - it also defines the sound of the band, the character of the songs, the volume... just like an orchestra conductor.

In these lessons (which are of course personalized and open depending on the interests of the student) we will work beyond the physical/mechanical aspect of the drums (technique, coordination, etc) into the musical aspect, so we will spend some time listening and analyzing music together, working on ear training and music theory from a practical point of view.

Hello! My name is Aurel and I am a French Amsterdam-based drummer.

Although currently specialized in Jazz music, I have studied various esthetics, and Pop and Rock music, in particular, are part of my background (I played in several pop-rock bands). Therefore I am able to teach a broad panel of music styles. I also have many drum methods and charts at my disposal, and have experience in teaching children from the age of 6, as well as teenagers and adults.

Lessons and teaching method:
I always adapt to the student's tastes and learning profiles. This is why, during the first lesson, and on a regular basis afterwards, I always take time to discuss with my students (or their parents if they are very young) to figure out together the path they want or need to follow. I will use charts and methods for those who need visual support to assimilate the skills or teach by ear and by demonstrating to the ones who feel more comfortable this way. I also play electric guitar and can jam with my students, which is a great tool for developing band playing skills or simply to have a good time.

About me:
In addition to my jazz drums bachelor and master degrees from the conservatory of Amsterdam (CvA), which included a thorough pedagogical training and a specialization in Indian Karnatic techniques, I benefit from 4 years of experience as an employed drum teacher in two French associative music schools (Ecole de musique de Nangis and Conservatoire des Deux Rives, Moret-sur-Loing).

I am also an active musician, both on the Dutch and the French scene. My trio mainly tours in France and has played at venues such as the Sunside (Paris), or participated in competitions like the Keep An Eye International Jazz Award. I am also the co-leader of the sextet Chai Masters, finalist of several European competitions (Leiden Jazz Award, Golden Jazz Trophy in Lille, France, 7 Virtual Jazz Contest). Recently, the band was part of Keep An Eye The Records's finalists (March 2022). Its first album "Magic Realism" received critical acclaim in France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
