What's fun about Chinese is that there's a lot of stories behind each word and phrases. I'm a native Chinese speaker, and when I was young I loved to explore the interesting facts behind Chinese when I learn it. I believe it's a pleasure of mine to share about this old language to friends all over the world.

For the past two years I worked as a script writer in the biggest TV broadcasting company in Hong Kong. It was a fun and colorful job to bring the audience information by using innovative story-telling methods. It also let me understand teaching is like story-telling. Students remember what you told if that's in an interesting way.

I specialise in teaching Chinese and Japanese to students of all ages and abilities. For both of these languages, my pronunciation, grammar and fluency are at a near native level, and my students benefit from my ability to explain concepts in English.

I am a creative teacher, however I do not shy away from traditional approaches to teaching, and as a teacher of languages, I particularly enjoy teaching grammar and pronunciation and have developed a thorough approach to each of these, along with all other aspects of language-learning. I have considerable experience devising and implementing my own syllabi (something I also greatly enjoy!) to cater for the diverse needs of my students - particularly younger learners.

The exact format for my classes therefore differs from student to student: some prefer to focus solely on speaking and listening; others (schoolchildren for instance) study more writing and translation. A typical syllabus followed could include the following on a weekly or fortnightly basis:

pronunciation training; writing practice; focussed work on grammar and grammatical structures; reading exercises; conversational role-play; vocabulary testing; essays on history and culture
