Essential Lessons in Environmental Monitoring : Techniques and Applications

With a passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering environmental awareness, I have accumulated one year of valuable teaching experience. Currently, I serve as a lecturer in Environmental Science at the University of Kelaniya, where I am dedicated to educating and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.

This class is designed for individuals who are eager to deepen their understanding of environmental monitoring. Join me in exploring our planet's health and sustainability through effective monitoring practices. This class course comprises seven lessons designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of various aspects of environmental monitoring:

Lesson 1: Data Quality Objectives and the Data Quality Objectives Process for Environmental Monitoring - This lesson covers the principles and processes of setting data quality objectives to ensure reliable and accurate environmental monitoring.

Lesson 2: Environmental Sampling Approaches and Techniques - This lesson introduces different approaches and techniques for sampling environmental parameters, providing foundational knowledge for effective sampling strategies.

Lesson 3: General Guidelines for Environmental Sampling Techniques - Building on the previous lesson, this session offers detailed guidelines for implementing sampling techniques accurately and consistently.

Lesson 4: Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) Aspects of Environmental Monitoring Programs - Focus on essential practices and standards to ensure data integrity in environmental monitoring and how QA/QC practices and their critical role in maintaining high-quality environmental monitoring programs.

Lesson 5: The potential parameters to be measured in air quality, water quality, and soil quality assessments, and guide the selection of priority parameters for thorough environmental evaluations.

Lesson 6: Importance of Environmental Monitoring and Applications of Physiochemical Methods

Lesson 7: Application of Biomonitoring Methods in Environmental Monitoring

I am a proud graduate of the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. I earned a degree (BSc. Honors) in Environmental Conservation and Management with First Class Honors and was honored as the gold medalist for the year 2020/2021.

• Conduct laboratory sessions for Environmental Conservation and Management undergraduates from first year to final year covering practical aspects of the course material (Ecology, Soil Science, Statistics in Environmental Science & GIS-Remote Sensing, etc).
• Oversee laboratory activities as the Lab in charge of courses such as Environmental Monitoring, and Soil and Mineral Resources, ensuring the proper setup and safety protocols.
• Lead tutorials for the Hydrology and Meteorology course for 1styear undergraduates, guiding students through key concepts and facilitating discussions to enhance their understanding.
• Provide group assistance during office hours, addressing students' queries and clarifying course-related doubts.
• Evaluate and grade laboratory reports, assessing students' understanding of experimental procedures and ability to analyze and interpret results effectively.
• Assigned to field activities of the courses in Wastewater Management, Sustainable Utilization of Energy Resources, and Green Technology and eco-design
