During orientation, I issue a questionnaire for students and their parents that asks questions about the child's likes, dislikes, interests, challenges and motivators. I use the information I gather to stock my incentive box and create my lesson plans for the first few weeks. Getting to know my students ahead of time allows me to create a classroom where they feel seen and safe.
