My main teaching philosophy is to teach students to play the music they enjoy. It sounds like a no-brainer but I have had teachers in the past who only showed me songs that they enjoyed or used method books that teach you "Mary Had A Little Lamb" or "Hot Crossed Buns" (and if you like those songs then we can learn those). All that to say, whatever the student's goal on the instrument, I will take them step by step until they reach it. For a beginning musician, the fundamentals of the instrument are given the highest priority: how to tune your instrument, names of all the notes, essential chords, basic strumming, playing in time, and understanding basic rhythm. For someone who already plays but needs a little help getting out of the rut, we'll spend time fixing bad technical habits, hammering home the fundamentals, expanding their repertoire, and slowly moving outside of the comfort zone to new horizons. With advanced players, listening (ear training), transcribing, song analysis, exploring advanced theory concepts, and focusing on composition and improvisation are most important. With all levels of students, I make playlists that I update after each lesson so they can hear real examples of what we are covering, as well as provide detailed written notes in TAB and standard notation so they can refer to everything we covered and know what to practice. My love for this wonderful instrument and my extensive experience have made it possible to achieve many successes with my students, such as helping them pass auditions for music schools and music colleges, as well as receive very good results in competitions. From personal experience, having changed my violin-playing technique several times, I put emphasis on the bow-hold, holding of the violin, and playing with the left hand. I strive for, as much as possible, a relaxed body during playing. My favorite part of teaching is discovering how to interpret individual musical pieces along with the students, so every feeling and every story is reflected in the sound. Hello! I am an experienced artist and educator from the U.K. Educated at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, I have also studied at the Royal Drawing School. Completing their Drawing Intensive program. I worked for a company in London teaching art workshops and then independently here in Berlin. My skills focus on drawing, painting, and printmaking. I am also skilled in areas of art history and theory (with an emphasis on 20th and 21st century). I am able to help students develop exhibitions and portfolio preparation . Students with an interest in working more conceptually are also welcomed. I always help students to contextualise their work, i provide books as source material. I am also able to set reading for the class, where applicable. We can also work on ongoing projects, such as a children’s book. I am interested in technique but also in the individual idiosyncratic ways each individual makes work. Art should be therapeutic too and I always make sure to design classes at the appropriate level. Art has always been my focus in life and I can’t wait to share my skills and enthusiasm with you. My classes also offer children a good opportunity to communicate and improve in English.

My first priority is making sure your student understands that I'm not extra, boring schooling. With my fifteen years of experience in mentoring and my commitment to understanding students' needs, we will accomplish this within our first meeting. Often times, students need either support with structure or being intellectually challenged, but I offer both these outcomes. I look at previous assignments and assessments, and I use this data to understand what skills to focus on, accordingly with the standards of your country's education system (I'm familiar with the American and German standards). I also take into account, however, what exists outside of the data, including interests and needs not specified on paper. I tailor my lessons then to be worth everyone's time. I foster skills in research, organization, and writing so that students will continue benefiting long after our sessions. I utilize tools, such as games, and projects to take learning off the page. My courses are aimed at primary and secondary school students, but I also take on working adults and college and graduate-level students as I support effective literacy at every level.
