Music is the best skill and tool for traveling to different times and places! Thus, I would like to invite you on an exquisite adventure.
Oud and Tanbour are two prominent instruments from the family of stringed instruments that give you the ability to perform a type of music (Gahan music) that we know as Modal/ Maqam music to Dast-Gahi music from the past centuries until today.
Our comprehensive approach to this music system, spanning from Central Asia to the Mediterranean, ensures that you will gain a deep understanding of this rich civilization. Through inspiring and amusing lessons, we will cover ear training, reading music scores, techniques, and music theory and history. And, most importantly, you will have the opportunity to develop your playing skills by making music together.

- Oud/Ud
To become a skilled oud player, it is essential to learn one of the oud playing styles. These lessons will focus on the Iranian oud playing style, which boasts a vast repertoire from Maqam music to Dast-Gah music. Alongside ear training and reading music scores, we will excitingly elevate your playing technique, enabling you to perform a variety of pieces from the masters of this music style. While the oud has a long and diverse historical past, our approach will be thoroughly contemporary, ensuring that you can connect with this instrument in a modern and engaging way.

- Tanbour
Playing Tanbour is a journey into the heart of Sufi and mystical thought. This instrument demands a high level of technique, Sonority, and Musicality, allowing you to connect deeply with the music and touch your audience's soul. I will guide you through a contemporary approach to playing Tanbour, including improvisation and composition, through a series of classified pieces and exercises. Get ready to be inspired and to inspire others with the epic power of the Tanbour.

- Music Theory Lessons (cognitive approach in the practice of Persian Music)
Music appreciation is designed to teach students how to understand and describe the contexts and creative processes involved in music composition, recognize what is being heard and what to listen for, and understand sound and melody. What is the time signature? What instruments are being played? What are you feeling while listening to this piece, and why? The term "appreciation" has roots in philosophy, described in this context as the understanding of the value and merit of different styles of music. Our primary focus for this method is a cognitive approach to the practice of Iranian Cultural Civilisation, known as Persian Music.

Acerca de mí
Sepand is an Iranian multi-instrumentalist, troubadour, artistic director and producer.
He was born in 1992 and grew and flourished in a wealthy family of artists and musicians. At nine, he first took up music with Tombak, moving on to specialize in Oud and Tanbour under the supervision of some of the best musicians in Iran, such as Sohrab Pournazeri and Arsalan Kamkar. Sepand became a member of the Shams ensemble, led by maestro Kaykhosrow Pournazeri in 2011 while performing alongside great artists such as Sohrab and Tahmoures Pournazeri, Homayoun Shajarian, Alireza Ghorbani, and Antoni Rey.
He also graduated Bachelor of Arts in Music from Tehran University. He completed his MMus in World Music at the Codarts University of Rotterdam, where he also worked and studied in the field of Maqam music with maestro Kudsi Erguner as his educator.
His musical collective "Jansouz" was named after the artistic name of his grandfather, a renowned maestro in the field of singing and the cultural history of Persian music. Since 2012, the Jansouz Collective has been creating and performing interdisciplinary forms of music related to the Iranian Cultural Civilization in collaboration with international musicians. As a troubadour, he strives to combine the musical self-discipline of ancient musicians with a novel understanding of modern times.
Sepand has had the privilege of collaborating with countless artists and experts worldwide in the past few years. Each project solidified his dual and concomitant passion for musical performance and cultural entrepreneurship, ultimately guiding his decision to pursue further his education in Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship at Erasmus University Rotterdam. It is this very desire that, since 2015, has been the driving force behind his pursuit of a cultural organization as "Persiart," which he founded in Paris and has been dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of the arts. As a director of the organization, he has sought to create a multidisciplinary approach that has enabled the organization to host several delegations to engage in cross-cultural dialogue and musical performances.

SPECIALISED IN TEACHING ADULTS.
Would you like to learn one of the instruments which have more style possibilities? Would you like to know why many composers say that is a very powerful instrument because it fits in may situations? Did you know that in the Klezmer history clarinet substituted the violin for projection reasons but also because perfectly able to imitate the human voice, crying or laughing? Would you like to discover the fascinating world of clarinet?

One of my priorities as a musician is the sound. I believe that with a beautiful and personal sound you are able at every level to transmit emotion and meaning, it doesn’t matter the difficulty or the level. So I try to focus first on awareness of what’s beautiful for the student and what’s not. Then through technique and repertoire (suggestions of the student or suggestions of mine that can help to grow the student curiosity), we develop the student knowledge.

Always helping the student to understand -depending on his/her the theoretical level- what we are doing, putting together music and theory. And giving tools to expand the border, at all levels. I have knowledge and experience in Jazz, Classical, Klezmer, Choro Music and Improvisation.
You just need a precious element!

• Music Theory
I focus on having a good basics, spending as much as we need to understand every single thing, because then with times it becomes more easy. I try to help the student simplifying the material because then, we only with ourselves with a good procedure of the basics to solve any problem. Only with one lesson, you will understand what I mean.

I have experience in preparing students for exams, the ones for the semester as well as any official exam; doesn't matter if you have an intermediate theory level and you want to improve, or if you would like to be stronger solidifying the knowledge you have (which is always the best option), or if you don’t know anything about notes and music concepts and you would like to be familiar with them. Maybe you are an adult who always wanted to improvise but doesn’t know where to start...?
The only thing you need is a good organization -which I can provide- to reach any goal!

Two worlds

I was born within two worlds, the East and the West; the folklore music of central Greece and the classical one. A major factor in the formation of my musicality comes from the tight relation of my family with Greek traditional music. However, music of any kind was always welcome at my home. Inspired by my father who is also a singer, I got involved in choir singing and started piano lessons. Opting for singing was a choice that gave me the freedom to express my mind.

R’n’B & Latin

At my first piano lessons, I realised how music is put on paper and the importance of it. At about the same time I started singing in the school choir of my secondary school and I kept being between the lead voices of the high school choir. That was the point where I practiced the different voice harmonies and got over my teenage reluctance by singing in front of the public. At the sweet age of 14, I developed a special interest in R’n’B and soul music. Later on, I got involved in the pop and rock scene but suddenly, Latin jazz music attracted my interest.

One of the reasons I fell in love with Latin music is because I feel that each emotion is manifested at its maximum glory. Latin music is a mixture of cultures and backgrounds; it is the fusion of European harmony brought to the colonies with African rhythms like Cuban music was brought to New York.

Singing as a vocal discovery

I consider myself a people’s person. When teaching I have the need to welcome the student into a safe environment of acceptance where music can happen. In order for the student to let go of personal timidness, mutual trust comes with time yet is necessary. I prioritise my students’ needs; teach them the technical aspects they should know so as to develop a healthy instrument but also coach them so that they develop their taste in music.

Because I have been singing various styles through my career, I believe I am quite a chameleon of styles (Latin, Brazilian, Jazz, Pop, Greek). In my lessons I find helpful to use some mini percussion so that the singer can establish an internal metronome. I am very supportive with each individuals’ needs and goals, that is why I always make a personal profile of my students and their progress and also ask them to design their personal dream board. All in all, I always use a combo of methods and adapt at the personal needs of the student.

Singing for me is always a vocal discovery and this is what I would like to help my students achieve. The essential idea is to develop a healthy instrument with which you can express through the good and bad days. I have been studying with different teachers around the Netherlands (Codarts alumni) and Greece and during this time I have realised that learning can happen anywhere and anytime.

Music is Play! and everyone is it's own game.
Read, understand and make only the music you like. I think if it isn't fun, it can't be music:)

I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music. It's longer than 9 years now!
Most of my students learn piano. With the starter ones, I use my own system to equally help them grow all the needed skills: body consciousness (to avoid lesions or bad habits), music theory (including writing and reading) and improvisation.
Usually most songs are made of melody, chords and rhythm. From there, I can help you understand how a song works, how is it written, how does it translate to the piano... and voilá! You'll know the song by heart, and will be able to play it a bit different every time, because you won't be following a set of pre-imposed instructions. You will understand how a small system (a song) works.
This way of learning can be applied to any song, from any century or style. Understanding is key! Play Chopin, write rock songs, play Monk, Bill Evans, the Beatles, make a lo-fi beat, play Beethoven, play the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars, play video game music, play salsa! bachata and make people dance, laugh or cry.
Music is very powerful!

PD: I have also experience imparting electronic music lessons in Ableton Live and Max MSP, which is now a very important part of my professional practice. In case you are interested, it is also possible to mix the two worlds and create a any kind of path between piano, synths, beats and home studio techniques.
Ask me anything, I'll tell you how I could help!

Hey there,

Are you in need of a talented and fun-loving music teacher? Well, look no further! I'm your gal.

First of all, let me just say that I love music. Like, seriously love it. And there's nothing that brings me more joy than sharing that love with others. That's why I've spent the last decade of my life teaching music theory, performance, and technique to students of all ages and levels.

But here's the thing, I don't believe that music has to be all serious and stuffy. In fact, I think that learning music should be a fun and enjoyable experience. That's why I strive to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere in my lessons, complete with jokes, puns, and maybe even some karaoke sessions (if you're lucky).

Now, don't get me wrong, I take my job seriously. I am profesional cellist. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a Master's degree in Music Performance, so you can rest assured that I know my stuff. But I also believe that learning music should be a joyful and exciting journey.

I am a Spanish pianist and composer (MMus graduate from Codarts Rotterdam in both directions) with many years of teaching experience, and also very active in performing in various contexts.

I give private piano lessons for all levels and styles (classical, jazz, Latin, new age, pop...), as well as music theory, composition and improvisation lessons. My lessons are distinguished by their dynamics, practical approach and adaptation to the needs and interests of the student.

The lessons (live or online) take place in my studio next to the Maastunnel, where I have a premium stage piano and a top-quality webcam setup.

I speak Dutch at an intermediate level, which is improving every day.
