About Me
Marvin Burlas, a passionate violinist and educator, has carved out his musical path with unwavering devotion and insatiable curiosity. Originally from the South-East of France, Marvin began his musical journey at the age of 5, diving into the meanders of classical music. However, his attraction to world sounds and jazz quickly emerged, igniting in him a fervent passion for improvisation.
This passion led him to exciting new horizons. His encounter with violinist Tcha Limberger was a turning point, leading him to the doors of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. There, alongside renowned masters such as Arnould Massart, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and Manuel Hermia, Marvin perfected his art, exploring the nuances of jazz and expanding his repertoire.
In 2018, Marvin co-founded the Aleph Quintet with Akram Ben Romdhane, a daring ensemble blending jazz, groove and Arabic influences. The quintet quickly attracted attention with its captivating performances, mixing North African melodies, jazz improvisations, Gnawa rhythms and Sufi culture. The awards poured in, with prestigious distinctions such as the Tanit d'argent and the Dar Eyquem prize at the Journées Musicales de Carthage in 2019, as well as the first prize of the KR Découverte music press in 2021.
Over the years, the Aleph Quintet has conquered national and international stages, from festivals in France and Belgium to renowned showcases such as WOMEX and Visa For Music. Their first album, “Shapes of Silence”, released on Igloo Records, was named “revelation album” by Jazz Magazine. This will be the opportunity for him to meet Fabrizio Cassol, the famous saxophonist of Aka Moon, who will play on the album. A second album in live version will be released in May 2024. Aleph's second studio album will be released in April 2025.
