Experience has taught me that it is very important to build a warm, trusting relationship with students, especially the very young ones. Bringing laughter, a sense of humour, games, and creating imaginative stories with music are my motives throughout the lesson. The goals and character of each student guides the teaching approach I adopt - some students enjoy learning for the joy of music, whilst others prefer to aim for recognised qualifications or grades. In both cases I aim to make learning enjoyable. I always encourage all my students, of whatever age or ability, to do some simple improvisation, and have developed several ways to facilitate this. I emphasise developing technique and music theory as they make the foundation of becoming a good musician throughout life.

*My life walk I did my entire primary school period at the Steiner School in Aalst. Later, after my 1st secondary school at the Steinerschool in Ghent, I switched to the Lyceum in Aalst (GO!). During this period I briefly studied economics-mathematics (3rd secondary) and then later (from 4th secondary) on to the science-mathematics (7h). After graduating from high school, I continued my studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in the direction of Bachelor of science Geography, which I now graduated in. My already traveled path has given me a backpack of sciences, and I really want to (try to) share my passion with young people. Very often children with autism do not play or have difficulty playing. Game forms, however, are an important link in further communication skills. Just think of eye contact, taking a turn and waiting, story building, fantasy, and so on. That is why it is important, especially with young children with (a suspicion of) autism to bet very hard on this game situation. As a speech therapy student I already have a lot of experience with children with autism and communication skills are an important part of my education, so I think this is an important population to work with. If you are a beginner then a good dose of motivation and the will to learn to play this instrument is all you need to get started. No prior knowledge of musical notes is required. Gradually you will learn the theory from practice through the lessons. Pupils who already have more experience are further introduced to the secrets of music. You can choose how much you want to follow. The piano lessons can take place at a fixed time (weekly or 2 weekly). If an agreed lesson cannot take place, it is sufficient to cancel it free of charge at least 24 hours in advance. This allows me to adjust my schedule if necessary.
