Über mich

Axel is a highly accomplished Argentine drummer, composer, improviser and arranger currently based in Berlin. He is known for his versatility and ability to perform within a wide range of musical genres, from jazz and popular music to Argentine folk music, avant-garde, free and conducted improvisation.

As a composer, Axel explores the relationship between jazz, improvisation, poetry and folklore music, creating soundscapes that evoke complex yet visceral emotions. He has a keen interest in nurturing his artistic practice and developing a unique sound and language of his own.

In addition to his work as a performer and composer, Axel is also an accomplished arranger. In 2018, he won a grant from the National Arts Foundation for a project that focused on researching, collecting, arranging, and recording music written by Argentine music composers. This project served to expand a repertoire of Argentine music arranged and reinterpreted under the perspective of jazz music, with a particular focus on using each piece as a platform for improvisation.

Axel received his bachelor's degree in jazz music from the Conservatorio Superior de Musica Manuel de Falla in Buenos Aires and is currently completing his master's studies at the NTNU Music Department (Trondheim), Rhythmic Music Conservatory (Copenhaguen) and the Jazz Institute Berlin as part of the European Jazz Master program.

As a bandleader, Axel has released “El equilibrio secreto de las cosas” (ears&eyes Records 2019), “Sesión Efénea” (Club del disco 2020), and “Sendero” (ears&eyes records 2021). His current project, MALEZA, features an international group comprising Mirna Bogdanović on vocals, Mathilde Vendramin on cello, Joakim Rainer Petersen on piano and Lisa Hoppe on bass.

OTHER EDUCATION
- Obtained a double diploma from the Patagonic Institute of the Arts (IUPA) for two seminars about Astor Piazzola's music, both in analysis of his arrangements as drums in his music, given by Nicolas Guerschberg and Daniel Pipi Piazzola.
- Took part of two different residencies and concerts at Centro Cultural Kirchner with Marilyn Crispell and Ben Goldberg.
- Participates in a one week workshop with clarinetist and composer Ben Goldberg during his residency at Centro Cultural Kirchner.
- SIM workshop directed by Ralph Alessi in New York at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
- Participates in a one week workshop with pianist and composer Marilyn Crispell during her residency at Centro Cultural Kirchner.

Drums, as with bass guitar are the backbone of any good song, and the foundation upon which the music is built. Despite not being as famous as lead vocals or lead guitar. Drums in my opinion is much more fun, at all levels of performance.

I will teach you how to play the drums, how to fit the style to the genre and we will learn by practice by breaking down the famous classics, and explain what part drums played to make these classics so good.

We will use my electronic drumset, which is not as good as the real thing but is definitely good for starters. There are ways you can practice at home without a drumset as well. And we can expand later and rent a studio room, where I can jam with you on the guitar even!

Piano is an incredible instrument to learn - it provides you with a broad understanding of music, develops listening skills, and great dexterity, increases concentration, and much more.

I studied jazz trumpet with Gary Barone in Freiburg at the International Music College (at that time it was still called jazz and rock school) (toured with Frank Zappa and played as a supporting act for Miles Davis) and have now been in Berlin as a freelance trumpeter and music producer for ten years / DJ active.

Classes take place in my small studio on Naumannstrasse in Schöneberg or online.

I studied Jazz trumpet in Freiburg at the International Music College (at that time it was still called Jazz and Rock school) with Gary Barone (who toured with Frank Zappa and played as the opening act of Miles Davis!).
Since then I work in Berlin as an independent trumpet player and music producer / DJ.

Hi everyone,

My music adventure started with playing piano when I was 8 years old. When I was 14, I got accepted from Istanbul University State Conservatoire and started to play flute and saxophone. After I graduate, I went to Marmara University Music Education department in Istanbul and graduated in 2016. In the same year, I moved to the Netherlands in order to study jazz music. I graduated from Prince Claus Conservatoire in 2020 and moved to Berlin last January for work and my master programme.

I used to perform on various genres with different setups in lots of different venues in Istanbul and Europe. I mainly play contemporary/experimental music, but also enjoy playing and teaching pop, jazz, classical, blues, funk, soul, latin, afro-jazz.

I am Tomás , an experienced live and studio drummer with a Master Of Music degree from the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK and I am available as a private tutor.

MY APPROACH
I am aware that everyone is different and therefore lessons need to be individually tailored every time. I will make an effort to get to know you as a person as well as your reason for playing the drums so I can then adjust your lesson material adequately. This ensures that every student is enjoying themselves from the very first lesson and therefore the learning will naturally occur much faster.

WHERE
Lessons are at my studio in Wedding, postcode 13359. The room is spacious and comfortable and has a PA system and two drum kits, making it ideal for lessons. I am also available to teach at the student’s location;
AGES
I have taught one-on-one lessons to kids as young as 7 but also to adults in their 50s and 60s. Whatever your age, we will make it work.

SKILL LEVELS
My experience ranges from teaching young beginners who are just starting out to mature drummers who need to polish their playing. For beginner students, I will teach you the basics of drumming in an approachable way to make it enjoyable from the very start. For experienced drummers, I can improve your technique, groove, feel, tone, articulation, dynamics, stage performance, vocabulary, listening, and reading. All this so you can become a better musician, not just a drummer. I also like to teach in a way that empowers you to teach yourself in the future.

I have been teaching 1-on-1 lessons for 11 years. I also have 7 years experience leading drum and percussion workshops.

I've been drumming for over 22 years and have now recorded and gigged with multiple bands, some of which I am the co-founder and co-songwriter for. Styles of music I have performed include rock, jazz, funk, psychedelia, afrobeat, disco, dance rock, electro, grunge, metal, blues, latin, and samba. I have a Master Of Music degree from Manchester’s Conservatoire (Royal Northern College of Music) in the UK. I also have experienced producing, composing, and mixing which I am more than happy to share with you.
