Hi, I am Maria and English is my first language. I studied English and American Literature at California State University Northridge and Translation at Heidelberg University. Later in my life I also studied law in Belgium and specialized in public procurement and contract law. I worked for many years as a translator and administrator in the Council of the European Union. I also served on an EPSO selection board in order to recruit translators. My three children went to one of the European Schools in Brussels, so I'm familiar with how the European School system works. I have started teaching online since February 2021 and have a few open time slots which I could offer you. I also do volunteer teaching for the Ecole des devoirs de Woluwé Saint Pierre in Brussels.

Hi! If you are struggling to get to the next level with your English I can help, whether you are a beginner or fluent, young child or happily retired. I am bilingual, a qualified and experienced English teacher with several years' of private tutoring as well as language school teaching.
One of the things I have found important with teaching at any level has been to make sure that passive vocabulary becomes active through speaking (and writing). Therefore I tend to ask my pupils to learn vocabulary between classes so that we can put them to use together.

As an alumna of the European School of Brussels III and a recent First-Class Honours graduate from The Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL) with a Master’s in Engineering and Architecture, I offer tutoring support to students of all levels. Once a student reaches out, we schedule a day and time. They send me the topics they’d like to cover, along with any class notes, past exams, or homework. I review the material in advance and prepare tailored exercises so we can make the most of our time together. During the session, we work through everything collaboratively, and I often assign additional exercises or homework to reinforce learning.

I take notes live during the lesson on my iPad, and afterwards, I share a complete PDF with everything we covered. If there’s something we didn’t get to, I make sure to finish it and send it over as soon as possible.

There’s truly no better feeling than seeing a student gain confidence and succeed in a subject they once found difficult.
