Dutch for speakers of other languages – with pleasure, rhythm and results

As a former Geography teacher for a few years at the start of my career and now as a young retired ex-Chief of Police and perfectly bilingual Dutch-French, I offer a daily availability to help out during the day where it is needed. I have the necessary pedagogical skills to help raise the knowledge of others to a higher level and to fill certain gaps. This can be for tutoring / explaining Geography and other Sciences to pupils / pupils to Dutch language lessons for adults and (extra) lessons in other languages for pupils and pupils in function of improving their language skills. If there is a need for it, I can of course also provide an explanation of the Belgian state and regional / community structures and their role and functioning, but also provide meaningful interpretation / explanation of relevant / useful criminal aspects of application in our society.

The courses are adapted to the needs of the student. The goal is to help as much as possible to find or regain confidence in speaking, but also in the pleasure of learning and to discover ways to learn yourself. For 15 years I have been giving lessons to adults and children, in schools and also privately. All levels are welcome.

My language lessons are always tailored to the student. I provide interaction, the pupil will be encouraged from the start to experiment with the Dutch language, always within the pupil's own perception of the world, so that what is learned is placed in a personal context and automatically supplemented with elements that are specific to the pupil. I have a number of fine methodologies at my disposal, but I also work with ease with material that the pupil has brought from school or from home, or else will select material to measure. I have been teaching Dutch as a second language for 20 years and have a master's degree in education with a specialization in learning disabilities.

As a psychologist with a master's degree from KU Leuven and fluent in Dutch, French and English, I am happy to help you with Dutch tutoring. I have experience in supporting high school and university students who have difficulty with the Dutch subject. I teach Dutch to adults and young adults in different contexts, focusing both on general language acquisition and professional communication. My approach is learner-centered and interactive. I combine communicative methods with structured grammar and vocabulary development, always adapting the lessons to the needs and goals of my students. At CVO and LIGO, I work with diverse groups of learners, often with multicultural and multilingual backgrounds. I emphasize practical language skills that students can apply in their daily lives, such as speaking, listening, and functional writing. I also integrate cultural aspects of Dutch-speaking society to help students not only learn the language but also understand the context in which it is used. At VUB, I teach professional Dutch, which means I prepare students for academic and professional settings. Here I focus on formal writing, presentations, academic vocabulary, and workplace communication. I encourage active participation, group work, and task-based learning to simulate real-life situations. Across all levels and institutions, I believe in creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment, where students feel confident to experiment with language. I use digital tools, authentic materials, and personalized feedback to maximize learning outcomes and to motivate students to develop both fluency and accuracy in Dutch.

If your child can use some extra support with, for example, counting, (reading) reading or writing, I would like to offer my help. I have been giving tutoring to children of different ages for a few years now. I also have a lot of experience as a babysitter and as an au pair, so I'm used to working with children and helping them get ahead and helping them see how much they can actually do!

I provide lessons for the Nt2 Staatsexamen and Dutch Nationalisation exam (Inburgering examen)and Business Dutch for ex-pats and people who want to learn everyday Dutch. In the citizenship exam course, students learn about history, geography and basic vocabulary which are the contents of the exam. They learn how to respond to basic questions. Besides preparatory lessons for (Inburgering examen ,citizenship exam ,I teach Business Dutch( Zakelijk Nederlands) to expats. Online lessons are delivered through Google meet and Ms Teams and other online platforms. The lessons are conducted online as well as at a location in The Hague. Both private and group lessons are available. I take pride in saying that all my students who I prepared for Dutch exams passed their exams with high scores:)

In our class we will be relaxed, I will help you with the Dutch conversation, the grammar, reading (like an article or a topic what I will give you). I will help students for beginners-lower-intermediate level. After every lesson I will give you homework for the next lesson.
