How to play saxophone and the art of improvisation Groningen
I think of myself as social musician. I mostly like to play sharing music with others. My first priority goes to having an interesting/charming/ resonant full sound. Then i work on how to connect your ears to your instrument so that you can play as simple as possible in a way that you can hear it before you are getting to play it on saxophone. We can also work on repertoire based on taste in music of your choice. If we choose some music that you like before actually studying it, this is a strong motivation for the student to go for it ! I am mostly an alto and tenor player but i can teach to any other kind of saxophone like baritone, soprano etc. My sound , technique and lessons are mostly coming from jazz music(blues ,swing , mostly American music of 20s-60s)
I assign homework after every lesson about the technique of the saxophone but also the possible tools of improvisation in music.
SAXOPHONE TECHNIQUE
Has the sound of the saxophone always appealed to you? Would you like to play your favourite music on either soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone saxophone? Or would you like to improve your technique, or maybe discover your own sound? In all those cases, I can guide you through playing the saxophone. I have access to a great variety of course material and also developed my own, which allows me to adjust your music lessons to your individual taste, level and goals.
IMPROVISATION – FOR ALL INSTRUMENTALISTS (AND VOCALISTS)
Would you like to learn how to improvise on your instrument? Would you like become familiar with the jazz tradition, or would you like to discover your own style of improvisation? I offer improvisation lessons for all instrumentalists and vocalists. A jazz background is not necessary: the only thing you need, is a basic technique level on your instrument
EAR TRAINING
One of the most useful skills, next to improvisation, that all kinds of instrumentalists and vocalists could learn from the jazz tradition, is how to play or sing music by ear. In a lot of musical genres there is a great emphasis on sheet music and sightreading. The ability to play or sing music by ear however, gives musicians the opportunity to use their instrument or voice in a much more versatile and creative way. This varies from more ease and options to play at live (jamming) sessions, to being able to play music that is not (yet) available in sheet music. I offer ear training, consisting of all kinds of exercises to learn how to recognize music by ear and to once and for all connect your ears to the instrument you play.
MUSIC THEORY
Just like languages such as English, Dutch or Greek have universal rules, so does the language of music. It does not consist of an alphabet, syntax, pragmatics or semantics, it consists of, chords, chord sequences, scales, rhythm and finally music notation. I offer lessons in which you learn how music is written and how you can use the universal language of music to communicate effectively with other musicians.
ARRANGING
Do you play in a duo, band, trio, quartet, quintet etc. (any group of two or more musicians) and experience trouble deciding who plays which part? Or, is there no sheet music of your piece of preference available for your group formation? I offer lessons in arranging music, which means learning how to make adaptations of compositions to fit your ensemble. This can mean rewriting a composition for different instruments, but also in different styles, tonalities and/or time signatures. One can do this by hand, but I also teach basic skills in digital music notation. Do you already have some basic skills in digitals music notation and are you really enthusiastic about expanding your arranging skills? I also offer a six month crash course in arranging for different group formations
BAND COACHING
Do you play in a duo, band, trio, quartet, quintet etc. (any group of two or more musicians) and would you like some help with rehearsing and playing together? I offer band coaching and guidance in various styles of (jazz) music.
If you are interested in receiving lessons in one or more of the above mentioned subjects, please contact me : together we can create a course that fits your individual needs and goals.

About Me
I enjoy teaching a lot and i see myself evolving as a performer musician through it .I find that each one of us musicians (either professionals or amateurs) that we have different charisma in relation to music.
I also find that that each student deserves a different way to receive music education based on the current needs of each individual person.
So the goals may vary depending on who we are , how much time can we spend on studying , what are we dreaming of etc etc.
I can become very analytical in terms of theory or harmony or instrument technique if needed.
On the other hand i can also be more practical and not really talk about it and focus on action.
My preference lies between these two edges but then it really depends on the needs of each student.
If the student has some specific taste in music that he or she would like to learn from , i can give directions about how to approach it .
Education
Bachelor diploma in jazz music performance studies at Prince Claus Conservatoire of Groningen .I have been next to teachers like Michael Moore, Miguel Martinez , Tineke Postma, Jeroen van Heerzele.
Experience / Qualifications
I started teaching 6 years ago.I also teach music theory , harmony , ear training , rhythm , saxophone technique, how to build a music combo, how to teach an ensemble of instruments playing together, how to make arranging of music on a basic simple level.

Learn to Play (Jazz) Saxophone! Highly-personalized lessons that focus on the student's individual progress
Hello fellow musician!
Have you ever dreamed of becoming a saxophone player?
Wheter you are trying to become a jazz improviser, or you have just started familiarizing with the instrument, I can teach you how to:
- be able to produce a beutiful sound;
- use music theory as a practical way to play correctly over changes;
- maximize the outcome of your practice-time;
- master the technique on your horn.
As a student, I often found myself struggling with resolving a particular set of problems. I was constantly confronted with higher-levelled players, wondering whether I would ever become able to express myself as they did through their music. Having been studying jazz for many years, I experimented with a lot of different learning methods, only to find out that music improvisation is something that is mainly acquired in very personal, differentiated ways. One of the most interesting things I experienced as an educator, when encountering students who shared my own past insecurities, doubts, questions, and struggles, was getting to understand a part of the person in front of me; and to find new ways to help grasp and internalize a theoretical or technical concept that could then enable them to formulate a more coherent musical idea. Even if every student is a unique individual, thus responding to different educational methods, I think that, over time, I was able to identify a red line around which I could create a method that can be beneficial to the majority of aspirational players.
For the past few years, I have been giving private instrument lessons to jazz players with varied backgrounds and experience.
My educative career consists of a traditional classical, MA in classical saxophone (Conservatorio G. B. Martini, Bologna), a BA in jazz saxophone (ibid.), and a BA in jazz saxophone called New York Jazz Bachelor at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen, where I am now attending a Jazz Master program.
Learn to Play Electric Bass / Bass Guitar (band coaching, improvisation, and music theory lessons)
The sources of my lessons come from the experience and knowledge I've gained not only from my music education - which consists of two instruments, two bachelor's degrees, and a master's degree -but also from being "out there" in the scene as a professional musician, from playing pit gigs, recording in the studios, touring as a band, being on festival stages, etc.
Apart from being in the scene, teaching music to people of various demographics has offered me the opportunity to strengthen the curriculum and the ability to deliver the material in a receiver-friendly way. This means that who you are, what music you are interested in, and why you want to play music all matter.

Guitar and music theory lessons in Groningen: "eye-to-eye" level lessons for popular, jazz, and finger style music.
As I have taught students who not only do music as a hobby, but also students with serious career plans in music, I am open to various styles of playing guitar (jazz, blues, fingerstyle, and other popular genres) to all levels.
My approach is heavily focused on individual student's goals and needs: If you are just starting to play the instrument, for instance, we will focus on learning the basic technique through simple and easy songs. I
f you are intermediate or advanced player already, we will focus on refining your already existing knowledge and find improvements to work on. Or, we can focus on specific themes, for instance improvisation, transcribing, and so on.
I also enjoy music theory very much and as I too struggled with grasping the concept when I was younger I am now more than happy to be able to present the world of music theory to anyone who is interested. We can begin with the basics that can help you improve on your instrument or we can dive deeper into more advanced fields of jazz theory. Whether you would like to learn music theory for practicality or you have an exam soon and would like to revise/learn more, I am more than happy to help you out on your music theory journey.

(LIVE or ONLINE!) Piano, improvisation, composition and music theory lessons
I am a Spanish pianist and composer (MMus graduate from Codarts Rotterdam in both directions) with many years of teaching experience, and also very active in performing in various contexts.
I give private piano lessons for all levels and styles (classical, jazz, Latin, new age, pop...), as well as music theory, composition and improvisation lessons. My lessons are distinguished by their dynamics, practical approach and adaptation to the needs and interests of the student.
The lessons (live or online) take place in my studio next to the Maastunnel, where I have a premium stage piano and a top-quality webcam setup.
I speak Dutch at an intermediate level, which is improving every day.
Professional jazz musician teaching jazz, blues, funk, R&B, pop, rock, latin and classical piano.
I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard.
My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student.
Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you.
A bit about me:
Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'. The video shown below is from my stint playing and directing 'After Midnight', a show set to the music of the Duke Ellington Big Band.
Improvisation for beginners and intermediates (any instrument)
Would you classify improvisation as composition or performance? Well actually it is both! When you improvise you are composing music on the spot, performing what you have made up at the same time as you have composed it.
For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease.
The key to success is understanding chords. Once you know how chords are formed and know what notes make up a few chords you will be well on your way towards being able to improvise. We will, therefore, start by ensuring a firm knowledge of certain chords. After this we will progress to improvising a simple melody over the top of these chords. The next stage is to start using notes that are not in the chord. The process is then open ended with emphasis on developing the melody.
If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session.
Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.
