I provide interaction, the pupil will be encouraged from the start to experiment with the Dutch language, always within the pupil's own perception of the world, so that what is learned is placed in a personal context and automatically supplemented with elements that are specific to the pupil.
I have a number of fine methodologies at my disposal, but I also work with ease with material that the pupil has brought from school or from home, or else will select material to measure.
I have been teaching Dutch as a second language for 20 years and have a master's degree in education with a specialization in learning disabilities.

I tutor children at your home, at a location of your choice (max. 10 minutes travel time) or online (from about 12 years). I also teach Dutch: conversation, spelling, grammar, reading, NT2. I listen carefully to what you need and I adapt my lessons to that. I am a patient, flexible and friendly person and I like a bit of lightness in the lesson. We will investigate and practice the many ways you can leverage native English speaking for rapidly learning Dutch. This course will leave you inspired and interested in foreign languages. The priority is on increasing your confidence in speaking a second language in daily life and to provide tools for independently learning Dutch.

LOOM is inspired by both the classic work on language learning The Loom of Language (1923), and the joy of watching children learn languages first hand.

This course is especially useful for:
- Those frustrated by conventional approaches to learning language
- Those with a bad memory for words
- Those who enjoy playing with language and meaning
- Those who prefer thinking and understanding over rote learning

I am a scientist by training and studied at Oxford and received my PhD from Cambridge. I currently work as a research scientist at Utrecht University and teach Dutch in my spare time. I have a passion for learning Dutch and finding hidden connections across languages, which I share with others. I am a native English speaker and very competent Dutch speaker (C1 level) - so I have personal experience of learning Dutch as an adult (and the challenges faced).
