Phonetics and Spelling in Standard German 標準德文語音與拼寫法

You will get an introduction to the German phoneme inventory, i.e. all the sounds – vowels, semi-vowels, and consonants – commonly used in the standard variety of this language. You will learn how these sounds are transliterated into German spelling (following a kind of logic that is different from English for several reasons), while also gaining an understanding as to why you may find slightly different spellings in print published before the end of the last century. Most importantly you will develop the essential skill to do the reverse and pronounce any German word you might come across. Once you've mastered the basics we'll bring you up to speed, so to speak, on how Germans occasionally “swallow” or omit sounds when contracting words in fast speech.

About Me
I'm a professional freelance translator, language teacher, and musician who migrated to Taiwan in 2011 after having lived, studied and worked in Germany, China, as well as South Korea. Language acquisition is a reciprocal process between teacher and student, so naturally I'm happiest in a situation where both parties involved put their heart and soul in it, with self-motivated learners who made a conscious choice to pick up the languages I teach. Without a doubt, however, I certainly consider it my job to inspire by instilling a love for the living language in my students, and keep that spark alive even during challenging lessons. My familiarity with languages from multiple language families (Germanic/Romance/Sino-Tibetan/Altaic) enables me to put myself into any learner's position, so I can quickly identify where the obstacles lie and help circumvent them. I'm excited to meet you and accompany you as a committed guide in your continuous progress!
