Hello, My name is Paulina and I am a transverse flute teacher. I obtained the DEM (diploma of musical studies) in 2013 BAC +5. I have been passionate about music since my childhood and I offer flute and music theory lessons to people of all ages and levels. I listen very closely to my students, I adapt to their requests, whether it is learning or perfecting pieces, deciphering and analyzing a score, or even technical work. With the little ones, I focus on play, imitation, imagination. With older children, I focus on technique, sound and theory in order to master the instrument as quickly as possible and so that the students can quickly enjoy pieces that they like. Before instrumental or vocal technique, the quality of listening, and the development of relative ear are the keys to being able to play music. Not moving your fingers mechanically on the instrument, but playing literally, having fun with the notes, rhythms and harmonies. During my years at the conservatory, as a child, I experienced this void of meaning that young students can feel in music theory classes. At the time I was a diligent student but quite mediocre in music theory. I simply didn't understand the method that was dictated to us in Musical Training class. This actually favors children with perfect pitch, and those who do not have it remain behind. What a pity ! But I was passionate and so I looked for other ways to develop my listening skills. I studied Indian music, I followed the teachings of American, German, Swiss teachers... And finally by practicing ancient music, I discovered ancient music theory. The latter is the one which provides the real bases from which all Western music arises. Counterpoint and harmony, everything became clearer to me. Calm and patient by nature, I would be delighted to help you or your child to appreciate music theory thanks to a personalized creative and playful approach.

These lessons are for young and/or inexperienced singers. My lesson plans are tailored towards students' individual goals. For some, this may be learning and embodying an audition song for their school's upcoming theater performance, and for others voice lessons are a first step towards singing healthily in their church choir. In any case, I focus on correcting and building core skills necessary to singing one's best while encouraging and fostering creativity, accountability, and motivation. If considered for a long-term journey towards singing, I will focus particularly on classical techniques to build steady breath control, good posture, and proper vowel and consonant formation. Along with providing repertoire, if the student is ready and wants, there will be opportunities for vocal performance in the Santa Cruz area. I will encourage audio recordings in all lessons to help with future preparations. I will be assigning some homework after every lesson, likely a combination of vocalization exercises, dedicated sheet music practice, and theory homework (if needed). *My first lesson will involve getting to know the student, their goals, and some vocalization to assess vocal level. For singers with minimal/no prior foundational music theory knowledge, I may recommend time from lessons (15-30 minutes) being allocated solely towards foundational music theory learning.

Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;) I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example. Experienced teacher of Oud and oriental Arabic singing for over 11 years, I am Lebanese and currently residing in Germany. I studied for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. I taught at the Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and gave private lessons. In addition, I was conductor of the Loubnan Assalam oriental orchestra for over 5 years. My recommendation for learning the Oud is to start with the study of notes and musical notation before tackling pieces. Although some students prefer to play songs directly, understanding the basics of musical notation allows for faster progress in the long run.
