I am a CELTA- Certified English Teacher which enables me to Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages accredited by Cambridge English. I also hold a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and my Bachelor’s degree is in the very same field- TEFEL-. My experience in Teaching goes back to the time I entered university when I was 18. I worked in Language schools, Language academies and gradually became a supervisor and coordinator. My recent work experience was working in an American International school both as an ESL teacher and coordinator, but I have always kept my job as a freelancer ESL teacher. The method I use and benefit from in my lessons focuses on interactive teaching and learning thus joining my lessons required you to be super active and highly cooperative. My primer goal is to teach my students to be confident and not be shy and afraid of making mistakes. We all do errors while we speak even our mother tongue language. Making mistakes is an inevitable part of a learning process and together, we will master that.

I teach beginner cello and violin. I am looking for students who will fall in love with it. I have recorded with major Christian labels and started an orchestra for inner city kids. I enjoy teaching, but finding those students who pick it up and fall in love is really what makes it worth it.

Dr. Jiyoung Um is a graduate of The Juilliard School for both Bachelor and Masters Degree in Violin Performance. He has extensive teaching experiences including, Assistant Professor of Violin at Biola University, Assistant Teacher of Professor Hyo Kang at Juilliard Pre-College. His solo performing experiences are worldwide including, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Scheonberg Hall, Crowell Hall, Merkin Hall (USA), Walter Hall (Canada), Sejong Center for the Arts (Korea), Municipal Teatro de Cali (Columbia), Talac Convention Center (Philippine). Many of his students have been accepted to prestigious music schools including, Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Eastman School of Music, USC, UCLA. Every year he prepares many Non-Music Major students for their college credential to be accepted colleges including, Harvard, MIT, Wellesley, Yale, UC Berkeley, and Columbia.
