I am a graduate of psychology and neuroscience from the University of King’s College London, and I am working as a special needs tutor. I have two years of experience working with special needs children and adults, particularly school-aged children (3-12) and adults (17+) with ASD and ADHD. I have experience working with very diverse students, including those who require substantial support both mentally and physically, as well as those with disruptive and inappropriate behaviors. I implement various techniques from different approaches, mainly applied behavioral analysis (ABA). I also implement components of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness, which are particularly used in situations where the student is guided into relaxation during moments of stress and frustration. I work using a one-on-one approach. Teaching skills such as emotional regulation, following a structured routine, verbal self-expression, and communication in addition to a Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) for students with limited language skills and for those who are non-verbal. Self-care skills such as self-grooming and culinary skills alongside development and age-appropriate skills such as mathematics, time-telling, sentence formulation, emotions, self-expression and communication are all essential for a healthy, independent life! The goal is to enable the student to fit comfortably into a classroom with fellow pupils and educators and supply them with skills they will build upon throughout their lives. Regular updates and communication with the parents regarding the progress and structure/content of lessons are regularly maintained. All the lessons are prepared for including administrative work such as keeping digitalized and material notes from lessons, as well as planning, structuring, and preparing material for future lessons based on the student’s preferences, strengths, and areas that require further work. I am very keen to tutor children who need extra help building upon their academic and occupational skills and achieving milestones!
