Hello! If you can understand this message without having to translate then you are ready for my help! I am from California, and have been living here in Brussels since 2012. I am 39 years old. I speak West Coast (California) English. It's the English you hear in your favorite California movies. I love to help friends who already speak "european street English" while HAVING FUN! Did you know that 70% of learning a language is learned OUTSIDE of a classroom setting? So I propose we go to the park, we cook together, we go on a bike ride, we draw, we play. And of course we will talk a lot. When I hear an error I will correct you in a fun way, writing things for you, with FUN AND REAL examples, with drawings, ALWAYS STAYING 100% in English. That's correct, I will only speak English to you, because as you and I both know, you already speak English, and you have understood everything (or maybe 70%) of everything I just wrote. I am a 26 year old teacher currently living in Brussels, Belgium. I was born in Istanbul, in a Greek and Armenian family. Turkish and Greek are my native languages. I studied English language teaching & Journalism at Marmara university. Currently, I am a senior in Greek language and literature. To me, being a learner is a full-time profession! I have received my DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) by Cambridge University. I believe learning a language should be based on communication. That's why, I always try to make my students talk more while I guide them. I use role-plays and communicative tasks a lot.

What to expect? Young children - More of a game/activity learning method but also involves learning a broad scheme of things. It is in a way, an introduction to the basics of the language. Teenagers - Usually involve set goals to reach by a certain period (for school). The teaching method and intensity depends on the amount of catching up to do. If no catch up is required a more friendly learning method can be applied depending on the learner's interests. Adults - More of a discussion-based learning method, depending on the experience of the learner. And can be oriented more towards specific subjects or domains chosen by the learner. It can involve course work or tasks to be done. Why me? I was born in Scotland but I grew up mostly in the french-speaking part of Belgium so I would say that both English and French are my natal languages. I have decent knowledge of the various English cultures, vocabulary, and grammar. Having traveled for a year in North America and having lived in Australia, Ireland, and Britain. My mother is an english teacher in a secondary school and has given private english lessons ever since we moved to Belgium when I was six years old . I have participated or helped in many classes when needed. I have access to a ton of material and her personal knowledge if I or we are experiencing a problem that we can't seem to solve. Or an issue the learner is experiencing that is preventing him/her from advancing. I am a very "auto-ditact" person who tries to maximize the resources I have and the ones I have access to. I am good at understanding and solving problems and I believe that I can apply this to teaching as well. I am a very professional person that tries to stay as relaxed and calm as possible. I am also extremely patient and have a lot of dedication. If there is a deadline and a goal to meet, I will try my very best to make things work. I try to be as impartial and non-judgemental as I can in order to make the person feel as relaxed as possible when communicating with them.

After obtaining my Master degree in applied communication, specialization in advertising and commercial communication at IHECS (2016), I worked two years in communication (fields: culture, e-learning and literature) and I then spent Aggregation of Higher Secondary Education in Information and Communication while working as an extra-curricular facilitator for kindergarten and primary school students (2018-2019). I gave classes in Media Education, Social Sciences, French and History-Geography in various schools in Brussels. I was an animator at the Patro for 9 years and trainer animators for 5 years. I am very enthusiastic and ready to go further to help others. I observe students to adapt my teaching method to their needs and I do extensive research, both on the subject and methods of learning to answer all their questions.
