This class will prepare a student for their required English examination, (11plus, GCSE or Alevel)
I have tutored successfully for 4 years with all students passing or improving their respective tests or exam scores, a most notable achievement being a particular students creative writing reward at their school in Bexley.

For a creative Writing session, students will learn (or recap) the basics of writing firstly: proper grammar, literary devices and skills to adopt a flowered vocabulary. Then, planning techniques and practising writing under timed conditions, if necessary ( for example, 11plus, GCSE and A-level practise).

I can create a long-term plan to support any area(s) under the English criteria together with the student and parent, sending the work from each lesson so progress can be tracked and materials kept for revision purposes.

This class is for students who require assistance with editing academic or other work.

My goal is to improve the English content of students' written work as well as grammar. I will provide constructive feedback to enable students to develop their writing. This class will be offered for GCSE English onwards and includes university dissertations and other pieces of written work.

I love the French language and pass this on to my students when I teach. Lots of speaking, listening to everyday conversations in various contexts, French songs, practising grammar and new vocabulary. Suitable for school children or adults.
English as a second language is another speciality of mine. I make my lessons interesting and fun. Speaking is the most important part but also writing notes as it is easier to remember afterwards. Listening to conversations and answering questions on them afterwards, while always checking grammar. I can guarantee fast progress.

April 2026: For Linguistics and Phonetics you will go through your university course assignments with me, we shall do "Chomskian trees" and we shall discuss theoretical points (eg GB theory, minimalist program). For Phonetics, IPA symbols and phonetic structures and theories (auto-segmental phonology and optimality theory). WARNING: there are many approaches to these theories, we shall go by what has been adopted at your university. Also: AI over-generates syntactic trees. They are not to be used for essays or to understand the underlying theories (right now, 2026). For Linguistics I use Radford 2004. Some universities (I am looking at you, Geneva!) still use old Generative grammar frameworks. Minimalist syntax evolves and the student is best advised to first read "old models" that are less confusing. AI trees are not reliable. What gets generated via AI is swift but mostly wrong. This is why you need a tutor!
