English for school work, exam preparation or conversation

Hello, I’m a native English speaker from the USA. Through travel and by living in foreign countries, I’ve learned first hand how important English is as an international standard.
For the past 4 years, I’ve taught English to a variety of private students of different ages, from elementary and secondary students (levels A1 - C2) for school work and exam preparation (IELTS, TEOFL, SAT, IB HS Entrance exams) to adults who want to develop their business or conversational English skills.
English has its fair share of complexities, so I make sure that each lesson is focused on a topic while using speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises to increase your overall understanding of the language.
Whether you’re just starting to learn the language, developing specific skills for an exam or job, or simply want to become more comfortable in conversation, I’m confident in my ability to help you reach your goals.

Présentation
Hello, I'm an English tutor from the USA, born in Florida with time spent in Chicago and California. As you can see, I've lived in many places during my life and due to my experiences, I've learned first hand how truly important & useful English has become.
Originally a musician (with undergraduate and graduate degrees), I first began my career focused on language learning while working as a sound engineer at the educational company Leapfrog. I then began teaching English 4 years ago while living in Hungary. My musician background has really helped my language teaching as I have a keen ear for hearing the sounds that are so important for developing language skills.
My philosophy towards teaching has been informed through my experience as an English tutor. What I have found to be most successful in teaching is to provide a welcoming environment, create a personal connection and convey a solid understanding of the topic to help students on their path to becoming self-sufficient and life-long learners.
I have been truly fortunate that my students come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. From young children to adult professionals, each has individual goals and almost all have created new challenges for me in terms of teaching, which has allowed me to learn and develop as an educator. I strive to provide these diverse learners with a welcoming environment, as I firmly believe that the best learning occurs in an inclusive setting.
I have found that the most rapid development of learning - and perhaps deepest - comes when a teacher inspires a student to develop a personal interest in a subject so that they become self-motivated to master it. This self-motivation is directly connected to building a personal rapport, even when working in a short time frame. Once this connection is developed, students are more willing to give teachers their trust and to accept new ideas and concepts.
After the trust between student and teacher is established, I provide a solid foundational understanding of the topic to my learners by integrating a structured pedagogical approach into an open-minded forum. I utilize a teaching style that provides a comprehensive explanation of the subject via instructional texts and other resources, while constantly eliciting responses to allow students to utilize the knowledge they may already possess.
Providing a welcoming environment, developing a personal connection, and giving students a solid foundational understanding of the topic have served me well as an educator. I have felt rewarded many times over by seeing the progress of my students, and I continue to develop my instructional skillset to teach more effectively and creatively. In the end, I hope to have helped my students develop individually, as I know they have done the same for me.
