Music theory can be a very overwhelming thing, when there are so many different ways to explain a concept, a chord, a system, an song... I will help you lay down a steady foundation of music theory and ear-training, explain the complexities with personal approaches and help you navigate and analyse the music you love.

I will use a basis of jazz theory which is also most used in pop-music. If you already play an instrument, this class will help you to deeper understand what you are playing and why it works musically. And any suggestions, wishes and dreams are welcome!

Hi! I'm Karlīna, a singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. I'm Latvian but based in Amsterdam.
Music is all my life, I've been singing since I was 2 and playing wind instruments since I'm 9 years old. I started studying jazz music when I was 16 and moved to Amsterdam in 2023 to pursue my education and career in music. Currently running my solo project and multiple bands in the Netherlands.
I want to share everything I've gained with you! I'd love to see everything you can bring to the table and work with your specific needs and wishes! I've always liked theory too so my passion for music is supported by theoretical explanations.

Music is one of the art forms closest to speaking and communicating. For me singing is my greatest passion and a way to express myself like I could never with words. I want to share this passion with the world, guide you through the journey of discovering the endless possibilities of your voice and help you achieve your goals.

We will learn both the technical and emotional sides of singing, discover vocal techniques, body awareness and learn from other legendary singers. Any genre and wishes are welcome! I myself specialise in jazz, indie and pop singing, songwriting and music theory and am studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Songwriting and Composition!

So many great songs in the world... only yours is missing! Songwriting is a beautiful craft, you can create music that is completely unique to you, your stories and imagination. A great quote from Jacob Collier:"when you are writing music, imagine music that you would like to exist, that you would like to listen to."

I will help you to realise and figure out what it is you're hearing in your head, provide you with tools and tricks to use and help you arrive to a mindset which welcomes creative processes and make artistic decisions more easily. Both singer-songwriters and instrumental composers are welcome! I'm a songwriter and composer for a few years now, I've encountered many different phases and struggles and have learned to overcome them with techniques and with intuition.

I am a brazilian musician graduated in classical guitar, with experience in jazz and brazilian music. Everything from bossa nova, samba, choro and latin music in general is my speciality. Hey there! In my lessons, what you want is the most important. That's why we create together a plan of study with ideas, goals and subjects to reach out our dream to make music (that's also my dream)

Nevertheless, I can give you an overview of the content:

I divide the music theory in two: Technical and Musical.
Technical Theory regarding all the concepts and information related to music, and Musical Theory regarding the ideas and concepts to help us understand and improve the performance of music. Besides that, we look to harmony in a functional, rhythmical and organic way. We learn and approach music from the first lesson, looking at it from different angles (understanding rhythm and essence of a song for example). All this plus a nice diet of assignments and exercises: D

Furthermore, we put especial attention to enjoying music. That means playing but also listening music! For me, that's one of the best ways to learn :)

And of course, we learn as well by making mistakes, so at the end it's all about fun and trying things out;)

Lessons are addressed to every student profile, regardless of age, level of expectations (no matter if it is seen as a hobby or rather if the individual is getting prepared for official Conservatory auditions, etc.).

We will play and/or focus on what the student is willing to deepen into (whatever music style they are interested in, more theoretical aspects or rather practical ones), trying to get the maximum profit of the employed time, and prioritising the actual learning of the person as the main factor for their motivation.

I obtained my Jazz Music Master's program at the Prince Claus Conservatoire of Groningen in June 2022.
Previously, in 2018, I graduated from my music Bachelor's at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona (Spain).

I am a guitar teacher graduated from Fontys Hooge School for the Arts, I have a lot of experience teaching young children and adults with and without prior knowledge, I like that my students identify with me and have confidence in the learning process, that makes that they learn faster and more fun, I use different methods to learn guitar, and I combine them with my experience and intuition, my experience teaching at a music academy was always pleasant, and also with a waiting list full of students, I am also very good at preparing students for the entrance exams of the conservatory.

Private lessons for beginners to advanced level of violin playing. All ages are welcome. I am a professionally trained teacher and violinist for almost two decades. My lessons are given in English, Spanish and (basic) Dutch.

My teaching method is variable depending on the students' needs, but the goal is shared: to make a great musician and qualified violinist out of the pupil. I work on both technical and musical aspects from a (very) consciously prepared healthy and enjoyable perspective. Particular emphasis on having fun with the little ones!

I pay special attention to creating a personalized education and experience for every one of my students. I also give some additional tools applicable to the violin playing which includes: Introduction to Yoga, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and Body & Mind. All the basic theory is taught too.

Occasionally, there are student concerts and collaborations with other teachers. (These may include some teachers from the Sweelinck Academy or the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and more).

From among the required tools for my lessons are: a violin and a bow, score and books purchases when necessary, and, from time to time, meetings with the parents. On occasion, I use digital tools like phone/tablet apps.

I can teach in various places near or in the center of Amsterdam, or, depending on the need, I can move to pretty much wherever in The Netherlands.

About the homework, I send it to the students on a weekly basis and encourage them to participate on competitions and summer music courses. As always, this is conditional on the pupil's stage.

Music is Play! and everyone is its own game.
Understand and make only the music you like. If it isn't fun, it can't be music!

I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music and playing synths, drum machines, and computers. It's longer than 5 years now!
Electronic music is a very vast world. The possibilities are endless. But do you need to learn everything, or only what interests you to make the music you want to do? From listening and analyzing a song you like, we will go through the necessary knowledge for you to achieve it:
- What do you need to build your home studio in order to create something similar?
- Which instruments (or plugins) are being used.
- Whether or not a knowledge of music theory is necessary.
- And in which different ways / through which paths could you achieve something like what you desire?

At the same time that we analyze and learn, you are also going to be encouraged to create! Practice makes the master, and the more you create, the more familiar you'll be with the tools and the environments that we learn in class. A part of the class is also going to be dedicated to listening to what you created and going through different ways we may improve it.

For people interested in live electronics (live-processing an acoustic instrument or programming live sets), I also have knowledge of Max MSP and I can teach the basics or help you program any kind of device you propose.

PD: I have also experienced imparting piano lessons, which is also a very important part of my professional practice. In case you are interested, it is also possible to mix the two worlds and create any kind of path between piano, synths, beats, and home studio techniques.

My name is Enrique and I come from Andalucía, Spain. I am a Classical Piano student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and I would be pleased to be your teacher.
