💬 I'm Tom, and I've been teaching English since 2013. Originally I'm from the south of England, and I've been happily living in the Hague since 2021. Before this I lived in Taiwan and mainland China. I speak a bunch of languages besides English, like Mandarin, Finnish, some French, and a little Japanese – and now of course I'm learning Dutch!

⭐Prepare for the IELTS test with an experienced, friendly and professional native English teacher

TEACHING STYLE:

Although I take the IELTS test seriously, and I want you to as well, my classes are also light-hearted and warm. People learn best when they’re enjoying themselves and feeling deeply interested, and that is my promise to you. I will correct your mistakes, but I will never shame or embarrass you for making them. My class is a place where people come to feel good and grow confidence.

My classes are focused completely on test skills. You will learn how to answer questions much faster with me.

👂 LISTENING: The IELTS listening test is full of DISTRACTIONS. It is designed to make you not sure about the answer. Usually, there is not just one simple answer, but there are two or three possible answers, and only one is completely correct. I will teach you to pay attention to the correct keywords and reject the distractions. SPELLING is also very important for this test. English spelling is complicated, but there are RULES and patterns that I will teach you.

📚 READING: I will teach you how to increase your reading SPEED, quickly find key information and reject distractions. You will learn how to answer all question types including multiple choice, matching information, true/false/not given, filling in blanks, and labelling diagrams.

🖊️ WRITING: You will learn about all the Task 1 question types including graphs, charts, maps and diagrams, plus all the Task 2 essay types. My COMPLETE WRITING GUIDE will give you all of the sentence patterns and structures you need to answer any question type. Even if you don't normally write well, you will be PREPARED for the test. I will also teach you to write QUICKLY, as it is essential to finish both tasks and reach the minimum number of words within one hour.

👄 SPEAKING: I will help you answer FLUENTLY and CLEARLY without hesitation in Part 1, make short speeches in Part 2, and give long and confident answers to all types of difficult questions in Part 3. I will help you with improve your fluency, pronunciation and confidence.

I have a double master's degree in Linguistics and English, and my research focus was how to teach English pronunciation and speaking skills. I won't let you down. 🫡
