I recently relocated to Tokyo from Kuwait, where I taught over 30 students annually (including members of the royal family) in one of the best music schools in the country. A number of my students have gone to study music at university level, including one getting accepted at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have a can-do, persevering and humorous spirit, and I simply love to teach.

About Me

I’m a positive person, with a can-do, hardworking and humorous spirit. My target in every lesson is to inspire my students to love playing the piano, and to motivate them to practice harder and most importantly, to enjoy practicing.
Coming from a family of teachers of literature, music and tennis, I always feel at home when I am teaching.

Experience / Qualifications

I’m a laureate of the Gulf International Chopin Piano Competition (2010), upon which I was awarded a piano scholarship by the Polish government to study piano in Poland in the form of masterclasses under renowned pianist Janusz Olejniczak.

I compose music in my spare time. One of my pieces, Bloozjan, was commissioned by Dutch jazz pianist Marcel Worms and consequently released in his CD, “Twenty Years of New Blues for Piano” (2017). I am also keen on making piano arrangements of Gypsy jazz music originally composed for the guitar.

I am a professional pianist, who have over 20 years experience in teaching piano and music theory.

I teach all ages, beginners to professionals, have many international students, and a class for Associations Franco-Japonais (AFJ), in English, French, and Japanese.

I also prepare students for exams or competitions, such as Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM, ARSM, DipABRSM), and Advanced Placement (AP) Music Theory, etc., and most of my students have achieved with distinction.

In my class, considering capabilities of each student, we will work and find together what is the best way for them to enjoy music, based on technical assurance and control, matching musical interpretation, communication, and delivery.

Teaching locations will be at a lesson studio in west Tokyo (Kamishakujii), student’s home, or online. Group lessons are able only for music theory at student’s home or online.
Hybrid lessons (combining face-to-face and online lessons) are also capable.

Laura is an Italian woman born in Sardinia. She began her studies of music at a young age as a self-taught, and with dedication, she learns to play the recorder and the basics of music. At 14, Laura passes the entrance examination at the music school. She enrolls at the music school and attends lectures in two different high schools: the music school (Conservatorio G.P. da Palestrina) and the pedagogical high school. After the graduation as a pedagogue, Laura continues her musical studies by playing the bassoon, studying in deep music composition, solfeggio, choral singing.
After graduating from the musical high school as a bassoonist, she enrolls at the music college, where she successfully concludes her studies as bassoonist (and music related studies) and begins a new course of study as pianist. After the master's degree, Laura moves to Japan, where she supervises a chorus and teaches music and Italian.

Currently, she is teaching piano solfeggio and vocal (vocal lessons are just for kids).

I am very passionate about coaching the basic but quite important methodology/exercise for playing drums such as rudiments, kick drum exersize with METRONOME, which are the areas most of the beginner drummers tend to skip. even experienced drummer would not know how to apply those rudiments patterns to real drums play.

EXPLORE MUSIC THROUGH PIANO PLAYING
A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, I offer private piano lessons at my teaching studio in Narimasu, Itabashiku, Tokyo. In my lessons I strive to teach more than simply how to play the piano. My goal is to help students understand how music works, how to understand it, and how to create it yourself. I take a holistic approach to teaching, incorporating lessons in proper piano technique, listing skills, rhythm and harmony games, good practice habits and techniques, and the history of music, among other things. Shakuhachi is a traditional Japanese bamboo flute.
It is unique in historical sense, Shakuhachi was played in Edo period, not as a musical instrument but a tool for Buddhism training.
It also has very unique character as a wind instrument, and there is very satisfying pleasure to play it.

In this class, we would like to share the joy and mindfulness of Shakuhachi playing.
It is sometimes hard to make sound with Shakuhachi, but there is so much to be inspired by feeling your breath turning into the sound, by playing the instrument.

Koudou is a professional Shakuhachi player, who has finished both the Bachelor and Master course at the Tokyo University of the Arts.
Along with playing in concerts and lives, he also gives lessons daily and teach in workshops for beginners more than 50 times a year.
