These lessons are for young and/or inexperienced singers. My lesson plans are tailored towards students' individual goals. For some, this may be learning and embodying an audition song for their school's upcoming theater performance, and for others voice lessons are a first step towards singing healthily in their church choir. In any case, I focus on correcting and building core skills necessary to singing one's best while encouraging and fostering creativity, accountability, and motivation. If considered for a long-term journey towards singing, I will focus particularly on classical techniques to build steady breath control, good posture, and proper vowel and consonant formation. Along with providing repertoire, if the student is ready and wants, there will be opportunities for vocal performance in the Santa Cruz area. I will encourage audio recordings in all lessons to help with future preparations. I will be assigning some homework after every lesson, likely a combination of vocalization exercises, dedicated sheet music practice, and theory homework (if needed). *My first lesson will involve getting to know the student, their goals, and some vocalization to assess vocal level. For singers with minimal/no prior foundational music theory knowledge, I may recommend time from lessons (15-30 minutes) being allocated solely towards foundational music theory learning.

I am an Italian soprano, graduated from the Dutch National Opera Academy. I work as a soloist as a freelance singer, and I teach singing to students of different levels and ages for many years. The most important thing during my lessons is to help the student find a healthy and comfortable way of singing! During the first part of the lesson, we will focus on Technique and breathing, while during the second part of the lesson we will focus on the repertoire chosen together with the student, applying the aspect of the technique that we worked on previously in the lesson.

The idea is to make it very dynamic so that you fall in love with your voice and are motivated to want to work on it every day. It doesn't matter how old you are, you can learn. Composing your own music has always been a very rewarding task. This has never been so true as the present day when you can hear what you compose instantly if you use computers to generate and play back your own music. However, to ensure that your music sounds really great (whether using computers, manuscript or actual instruments) there are many principles to be considered. I have had a great interest in composing for over 45 years. I have composed for various combinations of instruments and voices in a wide variety of styles. Having been a music teacher in a comprehensive school for over 30 years, I have had a lot of very relevant experience in teaching composition to a wide range of different ages and abilities. These opportunities have enabled me to tutor students in a diverse variety of genres. The class will be personalized to your particular standard and chosen style of composition. We would focus on generic building blocks such as structure and instrumentation as well as looking at how to develop ideas. Using a range of compositional devices will also be key to enhancing your compositions. I will tailor-make the class to suit you.

My name is Denise and I'm a professional singer with a singing master's degree from Catalonia's Music College (ESMUC) specialized in Historical Singing, Musicology and Music Education. My experience runs mostly in early and chamber music, nevertheless I also have the experience and knowledge of popular musical styles such as Latin-American folk, jazz and musicals. As a docent or vocal coach I've collaborated with different academic institutions and private artistic projects, focusing mostly on international students or social integration programs. My main goal is to help the student discover her or his voice while enjoying making music. No experience is needed, just bring your enthusiasm and favorite music.
