My name is Jonathan and I've been in love with languages since as long as I can remember. I'm on my way to learn the fifth. My dreams started coming true when I gained the courage to launch my private academy aimed at the private lessons niche market, two years ago.

Now, my objective is to help people succeed in their professional and personal path through effective ways of communication. Helping them not only with expression but with connection.

My goal is to make English learning a tool of connection and growth.

Education

My language learning and teaching have come as a result of vocation, and love for human connection through words and literature.
I am a polyglot. I speak English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, I am learning Arabic, and since I moved to Bern, I'm guessing I'll have to learn German too :-).

I've been working as an English teacher for a little less that 2 years and a half.
My experiences with English tutoring have been miscellaneous and thus, enriching.
I had the luck of teaching in so many different environments and circumstances. From schools to businesses. From groups, to individuals. From complete beginners to advanced learners who wanted to prepare for an exam.

I hold a Bachelor and Masters degree in Social Policy from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia. I am a native English speaker, being of British origin, and I hold additional qualifications in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

We can discuss the needs of the person concerned together and determine the objectives of the course. I can give this lesson at my own home (in Bern) if necessary, or I can travel (regions and surroundings of Bern, Friborg and Biel). There is also the possibility of following the course by webcam (for example on Zoom).

I believe in a personal approach, thus I would sit down with you and figure out what your goals are, your strengths, and your resources, either in person or via online tutoring. I've been doing this style of tutoring for about 10 years, with good success.

I have a master's degree in German Studies, and I am C2 proficient in English. Besides extensive work as a translator, I have experience tutoring university students from abroad, as well as refugees, and even my Czech girlfriend. Not just in English and German, but also specifically working to understand the Swiss dialects. Thus, I have a broad knowledge base that deals in all possible lingual backgrounds. I think in any language, learning is easiest when respecting the unique backgrounds of people and their language, and focusing rather on the commonalities than the differences. Being knowledgeable about linguistics certainly helps in achieving this.
