Depuis 10 ans, je partage ma passion des échecs en tant que professeur dans divers environnements : clubs, écoles primaires, collèges, cours particuliers, associations. J’enseigne également en anglais et en russe.
Par ailleurs, je suis diplômé de la Sorbonne avec un Master en stratégie internationale et intelligence économique.

Hi, my name is Gabriel. I'm the head coach of the chess team of the National University of Mexico (UNAM) since 2010. I speak fluent English as I lived six years in Oxford, England, when I was a child and I practice it since then.

With the UNAM's team I have obtained the following titles:
National Women's Championship: 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019
National Men's Championship: 2018, 2019
Absolute National Championship: 2018, 2019
Panamerican 2013 in Durango: silver medal

I also have extensive experience with players of all ages and levels. Here is a list of the places where I have worked:

I have over 30 years of experience playing chess. I am a Latvian Candidate Master with an international FIDE rating of 2059 and an English Chess Federation rating of 2120, and an online rating of 2400, reflecting a strong competitive level. I particularly excel in blitz and rapid formats. My greatest competitive achievement is winning 1st place at the English Open Women & Girls Rapid Championship in 2019.

I also have over 15 years of experience teaching chess to both juniors and adults. I have worked with students across the UK, supporting their steady progress and helping several achieve strong tournament results and qualification for higher-level competitions.

Chess is a fun game that starts with the basic rules and moves through the 3 parts of the game: the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame.

The focus at first is to teach you how the pieces move, what the goal of the opening is, and how the pieces interact. You will also learn the vocabulary related to chess and chess notation.

Tactics are then explored to take advantage of hanging pieces, lack of king safety, space, and tempo. From here depending on what your personal goals are we will adapt the classes to cover what will help you progress.

I have been playing chess since 1985. My dad quit playing me in 1988 when he was never able to win again. Chess is the most classic strategy game of all time.

If you want to learn how to play chess I can teach you. If you are able to beat me then you graduate the class. I doubt you ever will, but I would be very happy for you if you could. My goal will be to teach you to put me out of a job.
