Being able to consistently figure out what you don't know and what you can figure out is the basis of strong learning and problem solving skills, and I aim to make this approach a second nature for my students. Furthermore, knowing what inevitably needs to be memorized (and how to drill this information into your brain) and what can be easily reconstructed from a problem's given information and what you know, are, in my opinion, the cornerstones of efficient study and test-taking skills. Instilling this concept into my students' processes is another of my major goals.
