I was fortunate to have a very broad background in the exact sciences thanks to my civil engineering studies. My lessons can therefore cover chemistry (kinetics, equilibria, mass balances, etc.), mathematics (analysis, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability, differential equations, etc.), and physics (electricity, mechanics, thermodynamics, etc.). Before starting private lessons, I usually ask for a description of the student's current course so that I can best prepare the sessions. My studies also instilled in me a problem-based learning approach. My teaching method is therefore primarily practice-oriented, as the most important thing in the exact sciences is being able to solve any type of problem. And to do that, you have to do as many as possible. During my studies, I realized that the best way to understand a subject is by doing exercises on it. However, you still need to have some foundational knowledge. That's why I usually start with a brief review of the subject and provide a formula sheet with the important formulas. There is no need to know music theory. I will discuss some theoretical notions depending on what we are working on together, and your curiosity on this subject. I would emphasize listening, rhythm and playing in pairs. There will be part of the work devoted to instrumental technique (how to get a beautiful sound out of the instrument, how to play without getting tired or injured, what are the different ways of making a guitar/bass guitar sound depending on the style) , and the rest of the time we can work on pieces, tackle improvisation, group playing, composition, or other subjects depending on your requests. My musical journey: I am currently a student at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in jazz and before that I spent 2 years at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Lille in jazz bass/double bass and classical double bass. I also graduated from EF2M in Tourcoing. I started music at the age of 8 with the piano, then I turned to the guitar at 12 and then to the electric bass at 16. When I entered the Lille Conservatory, I also took up the double bass.
