Hoe is het Periodiek Systeem der elementen opgebouwd?

Het Periodiek Systeem (PS) bevat ruim 110 atoomsoorten, waarvan waterstof de kleinste is. We kunnen het PS in twee hoofdgroepen onderscheiden, namelijk de metalen en de niet-metalen. Belangrijkste kenmerk van de metalen is dat ze goed elektriciteit en warmte geleiden, terwijl de (meeste) niet-metalen dat niet doen. In de scheikunde vinden er er allerlei verbindingen plaats en op basis van het PS onderscheiden we drie typen verbindingen:
I. Metalen - Metalen: dat zijn de legeringen, denk bijv. aan messing een legering van koper en zink of brons, een legering van koper en tin.

II. Metalen - Niet-metalen: dat zijn de zouten. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan ons bekende keukenzout NaCl, waarvan Na = natrium (= metaal) en chloor (niet-metaal) de samemstellende atoomsoorten zijn.

III. Niet-metalen - niet-metalen: dat zijn de moleculaire stoffen. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan ons bekende water, H2O, waar zowel waterstof H als zuurstof O, beide niet-metalen zijn.

Ik ben een MSc in Civiele Techniek, M.Sc in Financiën en Economie en een MBA-afgestudeerde met meer dan 14 jaar ervaring in het lesgeven van Wiskunde tot en met bachelorniveau. Voor Biologie geef ik uitgebreide lessen voor studenten tot en met het Europees secundair niveau, GCSE en IGCSE. Mijn lesmethode is flexibel en aanpasbaar, zodat elke student persoonlijke begeleiding krijgt op basis van zijn/haar leerstijl en doelen.

Aangezien wiskunde een universele taal is, zijn de taken gemakkelijk te begrijpen en leg ik oplossingen duidelijk uit in het Engels, wat zorgt voor een naadloze leerervaring voor iedereen.
