About Me

I design my classes as bespoke trainings, adjusted to the individual needs of each student and their skill levels. Moreover, depending on their interests, we use a range of real-life examples to best retain information.
I have years of teaching experience in English and German and founded an association to teach Academic Writing skills to graduate students during my doctoral studies.

I always try to make my classes as engaging as possible. Homework can be helpful for students to practice their skills.

English academic writing follows a number of specific rules. I teach the main structure that students should follow to succeed in writing essays and dissertations. Additionally, citation rules and practical skills will be discussed. I am also happy to assist with resume and cover letter writing in English.
Moreover, I also offer copy editing of your assignments and help with related queries for an additional fee (depending on the length of the assignment).

On my qualifications:
I completed my Ph.D. in Political Science in 2019. Throughout my studies, I completed additional classes in Academic Writing and Copy Editing. I founded an association that taught Academic Writing classes to graduate students. Since 2012, I have edited numerous papers and dissertations of other students. I work as a researcher and lecturer at a university and as a fact-checker at a think tank. In terms of languages, my mother tongue is German, I completed all my studies in English (and lived in the US and the UK for a number of years) and work in French. I also speak some Swedish and Spanish if that helps you!

Depending on the level of the students and/or their expectations (exam preparations/assessments/desire for improvement for example), I work on the choice of appropriate words, grammatical accuracy, the ability to formulate more or less complex sentences.

For exam preparations:

The courses offer to acquire solid tools to learn to write, to comment on literary texts and a methodology to work on oral comprehension. The student must bring their own exam preparation brochure, available in all bookstores. For Goethe Institute model exams, the exam books from Cornlesen are particularly suitable. The other alternative would be to download and print before the start of the course a copy of the Goethe Institute exam available on the institute's website.

For the oral comprehension:

Work from audio-visual viewings downloaded from the Deutsche Welle site, which offer various recordings adapted to all levels, with a very concrete approach. In the long term, the student acquires ease not only in oral comprehension, but also enriches his basic vocabulary through exercises. I also work on the Goethe Institut oral tests to familiarize myself with speaking.

For the work of the written expression:

I begin by explaining in the first lesson some methodological tools to acquire writing skills. The student has the opportunity to start writing during the course or do a writing exercise on duty and give it to me to correct (send by email or at the beginning of the next lesson). The corrections are explained in detail. In addition, at the time of booking, the student can send me a draft copy before the lesson so that I can meet his needs even more quickly.

Apart from my presence with the student, every lesson involves preparation time before and after the lesson, particularly for the work that I correct. My goal being to design an individualized course, I take the time necessary to write detailed comments on corrected work or advice to ensure maximum success for everyone.
